While having a degree and an excellent grade point average (GPA) is an excellent foundation for a successful career, Sir Daniel Caparro provided a much-needed reminder that being "smart" doesn’t necessarily mean that a student will be employed in the industry; rather, employers hire people who are also capable of solving real-world problems.

Knowing how circuits and algorithms work from a theoretical perspective is only half the battle in the real world; if a student cannot utilize that knowledge to create functioning solutions, their worth as an individual is greatly decreased within the job market. Employers do not want to hire individuals who can merely pass a test; they want employees that can implement what they have learned in a "how things work on paper" to a "how things actually work" fashion.
We need to take action; we must begin to "get our hands dirty." Whether through side projects, internships, or starting our businesses, we must move away from being a student of theory and start to become a builder of reality.
