A GENTLE REMINDER:
“Content may earn views, but character earns respect.”
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Is it respectful?
Is it beneficial to the Fraternity?
And if every Brother saw this post, would we still be proud to have our name attached to it?
Our social-media presence should reflect the same principles we are expected to practice in our Fraternity:
To all our Brothers and Sisters, especially those who are active in vlogging, content creation, and social media, a gentle reminder:
There is nothing wrong with sharing our experiences, activities, and advocacy in the Fraternity. In fact, these platforms can be powerful tools to showcase the good works, brotherhood, service, and values that our Fraternity and Sorority stand for.
However, when our Fraternity/Sorority, its name, emblem, officers, members, activities, or internal affairs become part of our content, we also carry a greater responsibility.
A Brother/Sister may have his own personal social-media account, opinions, and style of content. But when the Fraternity/Sorority becomes the subject or is prominently featured, the public may no longer distinguish between the individual and the organization he/she represents.
Let us therefore exercise wisdom, prudence, and responsibility in what we post, record, discuss, and publish.
We are reminded to avoid content that may:
1. unnecessarily create controversy or misunderstanding;
2. expose internal matters that should properly remain within the organization;
3. ridicule, embarrass, or discredit fellow Brothers or officers;
present personal opinions as official positions of the Fraternity;
provoke unnecessary conflict with other organizations or individuals; or otherwise bring the Fraternity's name, integrity, credibility, or dignity into question.
This is not a call to silence legitimate opinions or constructive criticism. Every Brother/Sister has the right to ask questions, raise concerns, and express his views. What we ask is that these matters be handled in good faith, with respect, and through the proper channels, particularly when they concern internal organizational affairs.
