The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on Monday signed a memorandum circular for the reintegration of female persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) into society.

The PCW called the memorandum circular as a “unified step toward a justice system that protects, empowers, and upholds the rights of all women.”

In the statement, Valdeavilla underscored that women PDLs must be given opportunities to heal and rebuild their lives.

We are thrilled to share another proud moment for the BU Social Work Alumni community! 🌟

Our very own Mr. Ricky Bunao (Batch 1995), former Social Welfare Officer/OIC-Assistant Regional Director, DSWD Field Office 4A rose from the rank, President of the BU Social Work Alumni Association for 2 terms, convenor, founder and now serves as the National President of the Philippine NGO Social Workers Association.

Mr. Bunao is also one of the founders of the Association of DSWD Social Workers Inc (ADSWI) and served Founding National President for 12 years. Now the ADSWI is a member of the ASEAN Social Work Consortium (ASWC) Philippines.

Our President of the BU Social Work Alumni Association is also a former PASWI National Capital Region Vice President elected for 3 terms, Vice President for External at PASWI Quezon City Chapter. At present, he is the official representative of the Association of Child Caring Agencies of the Philippines (ACCAP) to the ASWC PH, engage in the Area Based Standards Network (ABSNET), National Council for Social Development (NCSD), Association of Foundations (AF) and PASWI National.

Currently, he is the Executive Director of the House of Refuge Foundation, Inc. and actively engage in the AFP Philippine Army Reserve Command with the rank of MAJOR handling the Civil Military Operations at the 1502nd Brigade. Likewise at the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary with the rank of COMMANDER under the 114th Squadron, PCGA, Also at Climate Change Task Force with the rank of MAJOR and PNP NCR Regional Mobile Force Battalion as one of the members of the Battalion Advisory Council. He is also a member of various Humanitarian Organizations such the Rotary, The Fraternal Order of Eagles-Philippine Eagles, among others.

Mr. Bunao has attended various certificate courses both in social work and in military, obtained two (2) masters degree, certified/awarded Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities (honoris causa) specializing in strategic civil military operations, social welfare protection services and disaster response management by Evangelical School of Theology. In 2023, he is one of the outstanding social workers in the Philippines recognized by the Philippine Association of Social Workers Incorporated. He is now a faculty member of St Marys College, Assistant Commandant of ROTC at PUP Quezon City and does consultancy work through sharing of his skills and advocacies that includes Good Governance, MOVE, ERPAT, DRRM, Crisis Management, All Sectors protection, Communicating Social Work through his popular online platform 4Ks Edutainment (Ang Kwentuhan ng Kaalaman, Karanasan at Kasiyahan), a composer, music enthusiast, singer of about 79 original songs published at the social media, all are related to social work and social issues - truly, a testament to his leadership, integrity, and lifelong commitment to social work.

We also celebrate the achievements of Ronnel T. Golimlim (Batch 1995), Program Manager of Hann Foundation and recently awarded Outstanding Social Worker of PASWI and Ma. Rachel Bismonte, program supervisor of the Kaisahang Buhay Foundation, a fellow BU Social Work alumni who continue to bring pride and honor to our institution through their service and dedication.

Together, they inspire the next generation of BU social workers to lead with compassion, excellence, and purpose. 💙✨
