With immense pride and gratitude, the Biological Sciences Department extends its appreciation to our students, Robin Caparanga, Miguel Manuel C. Aquino, Vence Cholo Navas, and Yazmine Shaden Maya, under the dedicated mentorship of their Coach, Mr. Joshua Allen T. Saliba, MSc., RMicro for representing the Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) Region IV-A and NCR in the Philippine Microbiology Olympiad (PhilMO) 2026 National Competition organized by the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. held on July 14, 2026, at the Enrique K. Razon, Jr. Hall, De La Salle University Laguna Campus.

Your commitment, perseverance, and passion to advance microbiology discipline in the Philippines have exemplified the excellence and academic spirit that define the CEU community.

Our Christmas party was more than just costumes and decorations; it was a celebration of the people who give life to this department. Faculty who inspire learning and discovery, and staff who make the daily grind smoother. Here’s to stronger bonds, more breakthroughs, and a new year filled with energy as powerful as the living cells we embodied.

The Biological Sciences Department joined the CEU Science Club’s tree planting event, “Gaia’s Gift: Planting for a Greener Earth, Rooted in Sustainability,” held on October 11, 2025 at the Payatas Controlled Disposal Facility.

In collaboration with CEU COMPASS SciTech Chapter, CEU Photographers Club, QC Parks Office, and the Bureau of Plant Industry, the CEU community came together to make the world a little greener and a lot brighter!

With the amazing leadership and support of Mr. John Jacob Uy (CEU Science Club Adviser) and Dr. Marilou Lanto (CEU COMPASS-SciTech Chapter Adviser), Ms. Faith Baldisimo (Overall Student Chairperson), together with the BioSci representatives: Ms. Rissa Lasap & Mr. Jerwin Fabrero (Faculty Members); Mrs. Elaine Borromeo (Department Secretary); and Ms. Michelle Lapitan, Mr. Aouie Bonifacio, & Mr. James Emmanuel Manapsal (Laboratory Technicians) — the event bloomed with teamwork, passion, and purpose.

Congratulations to Mr. Ron Richard S. Callera on his latest research publication!

His study, “Artificial Intelligence Embedded in Medical Research Education: Instructional Challenges, Strategies, and Practices,” has been published in the International Journal for Multidisciplinary Research.

The research examines how medical faculty members integrate AI into research education, revealing challenges such as limited technical skills, lack of standardized resources, and varying student readiness. It also highlights effective strategies like collaborative and interdisciplinary teaching, experiential learning, and adaptive technologies.

The study proposes a model for AI integration that emphasizes continuous professional development, innovative teaching practices, and strong institutional support, offering valuable guidance for faculty, administrators, and policymakers navigating AI in research education.

The Biological Sciences Department proudly congratulates the CEU Bio-Micro Team for achieving 2nd Runner-Up at the Philippine Microbiology Olympiad (PhilMO) 2025 – National Championship held on August 27 at UST!

Composed of Faith M. Pacia, Jose Gabriel P. Nery, Robin A. Caparanga, and Miguel Manuel P. Aquino, with the guidance of their mentor, Mr. John Hermie Paul S. Cerezo, RMicro, the team showcased Escolarian excellence and made CEU the only university from Luzon and the Visayas to secure a podium finish this year.

We applaud the team’s dedication and celebrate their well-deserved success on the national stage. Your dedication, brilliance, and passion have brought great pride to CEU and inspired fellow Escolarians to aim higher in the sciences.
