The Great Tondo Fire of 1937

The majority of the sufferers were temporarily housed in tents sent by the United states army and were pitched by the 3rd Battalion of the 31st Infantry behind Tondo Intermediate School, Magat Salamat Elementary School , Emilio Jacinto Elementary School and Rizal Elementary School. Some refused to transfer to these places because they preferred to stay in shacks (barong-barongs) which they constructed on their respective lots in the fire area.

A tent , shown in the last part of the video, was also put up in the fire area along Velasquez street to get data regarding the fire sufferers and for other purposes.

An emergency station was established at Velasquez street corner of Pacheco (probably at the house of Eufrasio Payad) and began operating in the morning of April 8, 1937. Some of the photos shown were taken from this house specifically the fifth and sixth photo.
