Bukidnon State University (BukSU), the Local Government Academy (LGA), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on December 11, 2024, at The Manila Hotel, Ermita, Manila, during the Capacity Development Awards for Catalyst of Excellence - Expanding Connections for Excellent Local Governance (CapDev ACE-ExCEL). Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, the University President, led the delegation, together with Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, and Head of the Center for Local Governance Ms. Loraine Mae A. Anasco. The LGA was represented by Executive Director Ms. Thelma Vecina, while DILG Regional Office 10 was represented by Director Yvette Tolentino-Sunga.
This collaboration, a first for BukSU as the only Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Bukidnon to secure such a partnership, aims to enhance local governance through cutting-edge research, extension, and innovation. By empowering local government units (LGUs) with evidence-based strategies and best practices, the partnership seeks to address governance challenges, improve service delivery, and promote sustainable development, reaffirming BukSUโs role as a vital academic partner in nation-building.

Bukidnon State University Joins 2024 CSIS Training in Cagayan de Oro City
A team from Bukidnon State University proudly participated in the Citizen Satisfaction Index System (CSIS) Training from March 12 to 15, 2024 at New Dawn Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The CSIS Training is designed to prepare Local Resource Institutes (LRIs) like us for the CSIS program run by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This year, the CSIS project will be carried out in Valencia City.
BukSU was represented by a dedicated team led by Loraine Mae A. Aรฑasco, the Head of the Center for Local Governance. She was joined by Dr. Rona Celeste V. Pasamonte, the Program Chair for the MPA/DPA Program, Mark Lyster Semortin, a faculty member of the CPAG, and Mark Ivan P. Arcillas from the Math Department.
The CSIS Training is a crucial step as it lays the groundwork for the upcoming implementation of the CSIS project in Valencia City. It provides the LRI team with the necessary tools, methodologies, and strategies to effectively measure and analyze citizen satisfaction with the local government's services. This is not just an opportunity for BukSU to contribute to the improvement of local governance but also a chance to apply academic expertise in real-world settings.

Shaping the Future: Bukidnon State University's Insightful Consultative Meeting with USTP on Smart City Proposals
On February 8, 2024, the vibrant USTP Cagayan De Oro Campus became the backdrop for a significant Consultative Meeting between Bukidnon State University (BukSU) and the University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines (USTP). The focus of this collaborative gathering was the development of Smart City Project Proposals.
Our dedicated team from BukSU, comprising Dr. Zeny Maureal, Dr. Derren Gaylo, Loraine Mae Aรฑasco, Walter Balane, Mariz Rochelle Sedon, Engr. Manuel Chad Agurob, Dr. Ma. Theresa Salumintao, and Keirby Depalan, enthusiastically engaged in discussions on Concept Proposal Writing. This critical step in the proposal process was explored with the intent of submitting innovative proposals to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The presence of USTP's esteemed Chancellor Atty. Dionel O. Albina, Vice Chancellor Engr. Alex Maureal, and TBI Director Dr. Franch Maverick Lorilla added weight to the importance of this meeting. Their support emphasized the collaborative spirit necessary for successful Smart City initiatives.
Throughout the meeting, we delved into the nuances of Concept Proposal Writing, pooling our collective insights to craft proposals that align seamlessly with the objectives of the Smart City initiative. The diversity of expertise within our team highlighted our commitment to a holistic approach to Smart City developmentdevelopment with the City Government of Malaybalay as the end user.
After the insightful conceptual discussions, our team transitioned to the finalization of proposals. This phase involved meticulous refining, addressing potential challenges, and ensuring that each proposal was finely tuned for success in the competitive landscape of DOST submissions.
The collaboration between BukSU and USTP had not only fostered knowledge exchange but also laid the foundation for a robust partnership between our two esteemed institutions. With our Smart City proposals taking shape, we eagerly anticipate contributing to transformative urban development in the Southern Philippines.
In essence, the Consultative Meeting at USTP is a milestone moment in BukSU's journey, showcasing our dedication to innovation and sustainable urban development. As our Smart City projects progress towards implementation, the synergy between BukSU and USTP promises to shape a brighter, more resilient future for the Southern Philippines.

BUKSU ATTENDS 2ND PHILIPPINE DATA FESTIVAL
Malate, Manila โ Bukidnon State University attended the 2nd Philippine Data Festival on October 3-4, 2023 at Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila.
Dr. Zeny L. Maureal, the Head of the Center for Mathematical Innovations; and Ms. Loraine Mae R. Asuncion-Aรฑasco, the Head of the Center for Local Governance represented BukSU on this two-day data festival with the theme โHarnessing the Power of Data and Statistics for a Future-ready Filipino and Filipina Youthโ. This national event was graced by Usec. Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
โIn this digital age, information is the most powerful and essential commodity,โ Mapa stressed in his welcoming speech during the opening ceremony. He further said that data and information form the bedrock for making sound and informed decisions within the government.
The festival showcased key presentations, including insights into the Smart City of Baguio and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), presented by Arch. Donna Tabangin, the City Planning Officer of Baguio City. Additionally, Ms. Desiree O. Narvaez of the National Economic Development Authority shed light on the role of data in local and national evidence-based policy making. Usec. Claire Dennis S. Mapa of PSA also shared valuable perspectives on the agency's contributions to crafting policy.
The two-day data festival was organized by PSA for faculty and students whose interest is on statistics, data science and data analytics in both the public and private sectors. The said event featured various presentations on current trends on big data and data analytics, resilience, macroeconomy and finance, health, women and gender, education and literacy, poverty, and population among others.
