𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐖 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐍𝐎𝐖 🌱

Community Development students of Bukidnon State University took part in the SIGAW MindaNOW program held yesterday at the BukSU Auditorium, bringing together students, government representatives, and stakeholders for an engaging discussion on Philippine politics, environmental protection, youth involvement, mineral development, and good governance.

The program was hosted by the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bukidnon State University (BukSU), and the City Government of Malaybalay.

The program featured a series of talks that provided participants with different perspectives on issues affecting communities and the country:

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬, Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns, opened the discussions with a Youth Conversation on Philippine Politics, encouraging young people to become more aware and engaged in political and social issues.

𝐌𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐜, Head of the Capacity, Building, and Training Section, shared insights on the importance of strengthening the knowledge, skills, and capabilities of young people as active members of society.

The environmental discussion was led by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐗𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐘𝐳𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐓. 𝐄𝐛𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧-𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐬 of DENR-PENRO Misamis Oriental through “Youth as Future Leaders in Environmental Protection and Resource Conservation.” The discussion highlighted the role of the youth in environmental protection and introduced key environmental laws, including R.A. 8749 (Clean Air Act), R.A. 9275 (Clean Water Act), and R.A. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act).

𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐚 then discussed “Minerals Development Towards a Progressive Philippines” providing participants with a perspective on mineral resources and their role in national development.

Meanwhile, 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 tackled the issue of corruption, highlighting the importance of integrity, accountability, and responsible leadership in public service.

For Community Development students, SIGAW MindaNOW was more than an academic gathering. It was an opportunity to listen, learn, and engage with real issues that shape communities and society. The discussions reinforced the importance of informed youth participation, environmental responsibility, and ethical leadership in building responsive and empowered communities.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐃𝐞𝐯 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Bukidnon State University (BukSU) strengthened the workplace readiness of its Bachelor of Science in Community Development (ComDev) interns through a pre-internship orientation and seminar-workshop held on August 11, 2026, at the University Audio Visual Center.

The whole-day activity equipped the interns with essential knowledge on internship guidelines, professional conduct, work ethics, personality development, and laws promoting safe and respectful workplaces before their deployment to their respective Host Training Establishments (HTEs).

Dr. Jiemalyn B. Paulican, ComDev Internship Coordinator, discussed the internship guidelines, timelines, pre-deployment documents, and course requirements. Dr. Lora E. Añar, Director of the Student Welfare and Engagement Unit, led the session on personality development, work-life balance, and psychological examination results.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marichu B. Montecillo, Director of the University Gender Research Resource Center, discussed workplace ethics, Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, Republic Act No. 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, and other relevant laws. Mr. Jose Benito C. Ronolo, Head of the Community Development Department, opened the activity with a welcome message.

The orientation and seminar-workshop are part of the interns’ pre-deployment requirements for Field Instruction, which provides opportunities for students to apply their classroom-based knowledge, values, and skills in actual workplace settings.

The activity also supports the University’s compliance with Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Order No. 104, series of 2017, or the Revised Guidelines for the Student Internship Program in the Philippines.

The BukSu Community Development Clean-Up Drive was carried out at the 4th Floor, Old CAS Building, led by CDSS officers in collaboration with CYDC. 🌿✨
This initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, discipline, and shared responsibility in preparing our campus for the upcoming Back-to-School season. All officers actively participated in cleaning classrooms and glassrooms to ensure a welcoming and organized environment for students. 🧹📚

The 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (BSComDev) successfully conducted its Department-Level Course Orientation for the First Semester, School Year 2026–2027 on August 05, 2026, via Google Meet. 🎉💚

The virtual orientation introduced students to the 𝐁𝐒 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 program through discussions on the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMGO), academic policies and guidelines, curriculum structure and course offerings, and the student services and support systems available throughout their academic journey.

The event also provided an opportunity for students to interact with the faculty members, raise questions, and clarify concerns, fostering a welcoming and engaging learning environment.

As the new academic year begins, may this orientation serve as a strong foundation for every Ka-COMDEV to grow, lead, and create meaningful change in the communities they will serve. 🌱✨

Art fought a courageous battle against cancer with remarkable strength, resilience, and dignity.
