The Donkey in the Well: A Lesson for Tough Times
One day, a farmer’s donkey accidentally fell into an old well. The poor animal cried loudly for hours, as the farmer tried to decide what to do. After thinking it over, he concluded the donkey was old and the well was no longer needed—retrieving it wasn’t worth the effort.
The farmer called his neighbors for help. Together, they grabbed shovels and began to throw dirt into the well, intending to bury the donkey. At first, the donkey screamed in fear, but then, surprisingly, he grew quiet.
After a few more shovelfuls, the farmer looked down the well—and what he saw amazed him. Each time the dirt hit the donkey’s back, the animal would shake it off and take a step upward.
With every shovel of dirt, he shook it off and climbed higher. Before long, the donkey had stepped out of the well entirely and trotted away happily!
The Lesson: Life will throw dirt on all of us—challenges, setbacks, disappointments. The key is to shake it off and keep moving upward. Each obstacle can become a stepping stone. No matter how deep the well, perseverance and resilience can lift us out.
Shake off the dirt, take the next step, and keep going.

True Riches (Money Is Not True Wealth)
Father: “Son, if I showed you a place where people have almost nothing… would you still call them poor?”
Son: “Of course, Dad. How could they not be?”
The father smiled gently and said,
Father: “Come with me. I want to show you something.”
They traveled to a small farm where a humble family lived. Their house was simple, their clothes were worn, and their tools were old. Still, the family welcomed them warmly. For several days, the father and son stayed there—working the land, feeding animals, and sharing meals with the family.
When it was time to leave, the father asked,
Father: “So, my son… what did you learn from this trip?”
The boy’s eyes lit up with excitement.
Son: “Dad, it was amazing! That family is so rich!”
The father stopped walking and looked at him in surprise.
Father: “Rich? How can you say that?”
The boy smiled and began to explain.
Son: “We only have one dog, but they have four—and chickens too!
We have four people in our house, but they have twelve. They always have someone to laugh and play with.
We have a small pool, but they have a river that never ends.
We use lanterns at night, but they have the wide open sky full of stars.
We have a patio, but they have endless fields to run and explore.
We buy food from the store, but they grow their own.
We have high fences to protect us, but they don’t need walls… they have friends who watch over each other.”
The father stood silent, his heart moved by his son’s words.
After a moment, the boy added softly,
Son: “Thank you, Dad… for showing me how truly rich people live.”
The father smiled, realizing that his son had learned a lesson far greater than money could ever teach.
Moral of the Story
True wealth is not measured by money or possessions.
It is found in love, family, freedom, nature, and gratitude.
When you have what truly matters to your heart, you are already rich.
