2. On November 11, 2025, payment may be made at the venue, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon. There will be PASWI Secretariat on site to accept the payments.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐝? You don’t just wake up one day and find elderly people living in dirty and unsafe conditions. That kind of neglect builds up over time. But sadly, people get used to ignoring it.

Care facilities like this need to be registered, monitored, and managed by trained staff. But in reality, these things are not always followed, and some centers continue to operate quietly until a problem becomes too big to hide.

Elderly care in the Philippines needs more than reactive measures. Strengthening local monitoring systems, improving coordination between DSWD and LGUs, and providing training for caregivers can make a real difference.

Rescue operations are necessary, but they shouldn’t be our main strategy. Real protection means building systems that prevent neglect before it even happens.

💭This image hits deep, especially for us in social work because it shows the difference between false generosity (where you provide relief aid but the situation remains the same) and true generosity (which is a more long-term type of help).

As social workers, madali tayong mahulog sa trap ng pagiging “tagapagligtas" or the hero complex.

Gusto nating tumulong, pero minsan, nakalimutan nating tanungin: 𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙄 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙖 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙖 𝙨𝙖 𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙠𝙤?

True generosity is empowerment in action. Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagbibigay ng relief goods o cash assistance, kundi sa pagbuo ng kakayahan: skills, awareness, at confidence, para kaya nilang ayusin ang mga problema nila mismo.

So, in simple terms: huwag lang tayo maging tagapagbigay. We have to be partners of change.

🫵Because the real goal of social work isn’t to be needed forever, but 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐲.

Naalala ko ang konsepto ng ‘false generosity’ mula sa librong Pedagogy of the Oppressed ni Paulo Freire.

Nangyayari ang false generosity kapag ang pagtulong ay nagiging paraan para panatilihing nakadepende ang tao, kung saan ang nagbibigay ay nagmumukhang ‘tagapagligtas’ at nananatiling one-sided ang kapangyarihan.

Madalas natin itong makita sa mga tradisyonal at ambisyosong pulitiko sa Pilipinas gamit ang ayuda kasama ang propaganda nila. Mas laganap pa ito dahil sa sistema na meron tayo sa Pilipinas na bumoboto tayo sa personalidad at maraming nangangailangan.

Pero ayon kay Freire, ang tunay na pagkabukas-palad ay hindi tungkol sa awa nila o imahe ng "savior", kundi sa pakikipaglaban nang magkasama, sa pagtuturo sa isa't-isa ng mas maayos na sistema, at pagbibigay lakas sa manggagawa—hanggang sa hindi na nila kailangan ang mga ayuda at pagdedepende sa iilang makapangyarihan.

At kapag lahat tayo ay gagawa nito, at hindi na umasa sa mga tagapagligtas, ay maaring magkaroon ng totoong progresibo at kaunlaran ang buhay ng mga tao.

Mother Nature has spoken; not to warn us again, but to show us what silence costs.
