Happy Anniversary, FNF!

Your steadfast support and tireless work in upholding democracy inspire all of us, your partner institutions, to continue advancing human rights advocacy. We deeply value the enduring partnership and solidarity we have built with you through the years.

As Friedrich Naumann Foundation marks its 68th anniversary, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to advancing freedom, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, including here in the Philippines.

For nearly seven decades, this mission has been made possible through the dedication, partnership, and shared vision of individuals and communities who believe in a freer and more just society.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this meaningful journey in championing freedom for all. Together, we continue to move forward with hope, purpose, and conviction.

The Senate must not become a refuge for a person wanted for alleged crimes against humanity. There is no constitutional or statutory basis that transforms the Senate premises into a sanctuary from lawful arrest. Public office, political influence, and institutional protection must never be used to obstruct accountability for grave international crimes.

In the language of the Calamian Tagbanwa, “pagpakdul ta sadlaw” means “pagbibigay ng liwanag”—to give light. For the Indigenous communities inhabiting the Chindunan-Alulad-Lamud-Marabal (CALM) Ancestral Domain in Culion, Palawan, it is the humming in their lullabies, the rhythm in their dance, and the hymns in their stories that give them light in their darkest and most uncertain days. For the Calamian Tagbanwa of CALM, to give light is to let out a song; to find light is to retrace the maps of their collective history.

This May 30, we invite you to bask in this shared warmth of community and belongingness as we witness musical performances from Cultures in Harmony and our Calamian Tagbanwa culture-bearers who will play songs of hope, healing, and home. This afternoon will likewise include a talkback session with Cartwheel Foundation, the Ateneo Human Rights Center, Cultures in Harmony, The Arts and Health Institute by MAGIS Creative Spaces, and our guests from CALM.

Proceeds from this event will support Cartwheel Foundation, Inc.’s ongoing programs with their Calamian Tagbanwa partner-communities and the Ateneo Human Rights Center’s legal and capacity-development efforts toward the protection and security of the CALM Ancestral Domain.

This event is presented by Cultures in Harmony and MAGIS Creative Spaces, and sponsored by Manila Symphony Orchestra, The Arts and Health Institute by MAGIS Creative Spaces, and Sun Life Philippines.

A call for calm and for media access at the Senate

We urge Senate leadership to allow colleagues access to and egress from the chamber as they perform their duties.

We also urge parties in the developing situation to resolve this issue without putting our colleagues and others who are not involved at risk.

A call for calm and for media access at the Senate

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines expresses concern over the lockdown at the Senate implemented this afternoon.

According to information received from within the upper house, media workers inside the complex are not allowed to go out and those outside cannot enter.

The measures, reportedly prompted by a National Bureau of Investigation attempt to arrest Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, have included barbed wire at the gate and the rolling down of roller doors at the main entrance.

Media deployed to the Senate are assigned to cover matters of national interest, including developments on Dela Rosa's situation.

We urge Senate leadership to allow colleagues access to and egress from the chamber as they perform their duties.

We also urge parties in the developing situation to resolve this issue without putting our colleagues and others who are not involved at risk.
