LALA Chocolate

LALA Milk Chocolate has been a beloved treat in the Philippines for over 40 years, known for its chewy texture and rich, milk-based flavor. The story behind its creation is just as sweet. In the early 1970s, Salvacion Belaro and his family moved from Bicol to Bulacan in search of better opportunities. They started making molido, a kamote and sugar delicacy, but one day, a fortunate accident changed everything. Salvacion was trying to make pastillas when he accidentally created chocolate instead.

Did you know? LALA chocolates became so popular that the family even named their fifth child Lala after the product!

The name "LALA" is an acronym for the first letters of their four children: Louie, Arlet, Luisa, and Arlene. Despite humble beginnings, LALA chocolates quickly became a hit, loved for their simple yet delicious taste. Unlike many other chocolates, LALA uses pure cocoa and milk without added fats from oils, making them a healthier option.

Today, Gracepoint Enterprises (formerly LALA Food Products) runs a factory in Bulacan and produces these nostalgic treats for generations of Filipino chocoholics. Even without TV ads, LALA chocolates continue to be a staple in sari-sari stores, offering sweet memories with every bite.

BAZOOKA BUBBLE GUM

Bazooka bubble gum first hit the U.S. market after World War II, brought to life by the Topps Company in Brooklyn, New York. Packaged in a vibrant red, white, and blue design, it quickly became a favorite among kids, selling for just 1 penny. The iconic Bazooka Joe comic strips, introduced in 1953, added to its charm, making it more than just a gum but a small adventure in every piece. The 1960s saw Bazooka expand internationally, bringing joy to children around the world with new flavors like Grape and Blue Raspberry.

In the Philippines, Bazooka gum became a beloved part of childhood in the '80s and '90s. For only fifty centavos, Filipino kids could savor the sweet taste of Bazooka and enjoy the delightful mini-comic that came with it. It was more than just a treat; it was a piece of nostalgia that many remember fondly. Bazooka was a staple in schoolyards and homes, often shared among friends and siblings, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.

One particularly heartwarming memory for many Filipinos is the Bazooka bubble gum blowing contest. Held in the 1980s and featured on the popular TV show Eat Bulaga!, the contest challenged children to blow the biggest bubble. The excitement of participating and the joy of seeing who could create the largest bubble was an unforgettable experience.
