After two years of running Scuba Sirens, I’ve decided to close the business. Although it was a small operation, I’m grateful for everyone who joined our dive trips, took courses, and supported the idea of creating a dive guide and icertification business. Every diver and every trip meant a lot. Thank you to those who trusted Scuba Sirens and shared the ocean with us. I truly appreciate the support. Stephanie

The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty is a focused 2-day course in Subic Bay, one of the Philippines’ most established wreck diving destinations. Designed for certified divers who want to expand their skills, this specialty includes at least four open water wreck dives under the direct supervision of your PADI Instructor. Subic Bay’s historic World War II wrecks provide the ideal training ground to learn proper wreck diving procedures in real-world conditions.
Before entering the water, you’ll complete PADI eLearning and review essential knowledge such as wreck structure, mapping, legal considerations, and responsible interaction with historical sites. You’ll also discuss potential hazards, including sharp edges, entanglement risks, and limited visibility, and how to manage them conservatively.
Skill development may begin in controlled conditions, where you practice tying knots, using reels and guidelines, and mastering buoyancy for safe pe*******on. Some sessions may include confined water practice to refine techniques before exploring overhead environments.
By the end of the course, you’ll feel confident planning and executing safe wreck dives—combining adventure, history, and disciplined dive practices in one of the country’s most exciting underwater classrooms.

The hawksbill sea turtles in Anilao are living proof that environmental activism works. Nearly depleted two decades ago due to overharvesting, habitat destruction, and weak protection, sightings were once rare and uncertain. Today, their steady presence—sometimes almost two turtles per house reef—reflects years of persistent conservation, community education, marine protected areas, and responsible tourism. What once felt like loss has slowly turned into cautious hope beneath the surface.
This recovery did not happen by accident. It is the result of hardworking activists, local communities, dive operators, and conservation leaders who believed the reefs were worth fighting for. Through reef protection, enforcement against illegal fishing, awareness campaigns, and promoting sustainable diving practices, they helped create safer habitats where hawksbills can feed, rest, and grow. Seeing these critically endangered turtles glide across Anilao’s coral gardens is more than just a beautiful dive moment—it is a symbol of what focused, science-based advocacy can achieve. The right kind of activism—grounded in knowledge, collaboration, and long-term commitment—can truly change the world, one reef at a time.
The hawksbill sea turtles in Anilao is a testament that environmental activism works. Almost depleted 2 decades ago, their presence in Anilao today is almost 2 to every housereef. Thank you to the hardworking activists; the right kind can change the world.

One of the simplest yet most overlooked scuba tips is properly securing your octopus (alternate air source). Your octo should always be easy to see, easy to reach, and easy to donate in an emergency — but it should never dangle below you where it can drag across corals, stir up sand, or stress marine life. A loose octopus not only looks untidy, it increases task loading and can create entanglement risks. Good divers stay streamlined.
You can secure your octo using a snorkel keeper, a wide O-ring, or a dedicated regulator clip. Each option keeps the second stage close to your body while still allowing quick release when needed. The key is positioning: attach it where your buddy instinctively expects it to be, usually within the triangle formed by your chin and lower rib cage. Always test that it releases smoothly with one hand.
Proper octo placement reflects strong dive discipline. It improves safety, protects fragile reef ecosystems, and reduces drag underwater. Small details like this make a big difference. A streamlined diver is a safer diver — and a safer diver protects the ocean we all love.
Secure your octopus (alternate air source) so it’s easy to deploy but won’t drag or damage marine life—use a snorkel keeper, wide O-ring, or a proper clip to keep it streamlined and accessible. A neatly stowed octo improves safety, protects the reef, and shows good buoyancy control and responsible diving habits.
