DESIGN: Creative direction is no longer just about how things look, it’s about how everything connects.
In an interview with adobo Magazine, Ayala Land, Inc. Creative Director Paloma Zobel de Ayala reflects on Milan Design Week 2026 and how cities today operate as living systems where architecture, culture, commerce, and movement continuously overlap to shape more immersive ways of experiencing the place.
From “productive friction” to permeable cities, she unpacks why the future of placemaking lies in openness, interaction, and environments designed to evolve with the people who move through them.
“I think cities function successfully as creative systems when there’s permeability between disciplines, institutions, and communities. When movement, curiosity, and encounter are designed into the urban experience rather than controlled out of it,” she said.

ADOBO SHECREATIVE: Merlee Jayme moved her house closer to her office so she wouldn't have to choose between her daughters and her deadlines.
The Jayme Headquarters - JHQ and TThe Misfits Camp Chairmom proves that creativity is not just taught — it’s lived daily. Her journey as a mother and mentor shows how leadership can be grounded in empathy, discipline, and inclusion.
Merlee reflects on how motherhood reshaped her leadership, integrating creativity, discipline, and empathy into both her home and her work
“What I realized when I first became a mom was that it was not just me anymore. When I was a copywriter struggling in this industry, when I was single, it was all about me—how I would move up, what I should do to win more awards, to earn more. When you become a mom, suddenly your perspective changes,” she told adobo Magazine.
In this Mother's Day feature, Merlee lets us peek into what three decades of raising daughters — and an industry — actually looks like: https://bit.ly/42lTJV9
