When the wet market has fresh cod, I’d take advantage of it.
I usually steam it as I find steaming fish is the best way to bring out its flavor. I usually marinate it with the juice of half a lemon and 1 1/2 Tbsp of light soy sauce. Or, just top it with 1 Tbsp of Lee’s black bean garlic sauce.
Steaming takes 11-13 minutes. More than that makes the flesh tough.
I just blanch the greens and place them on the side when the fish is done. The veggies absorb the sauce from the fish. Garnish with spring onions or season with freshly ground pepper.

MORE isn’t always the answer.
Many high-performing women unintentionally push harder when they want better results.
More discipline.
More intensity.
More time.
More effort.
But our body doesn’t always respond to “more.” Sometimes the body simply becomes more depleted. Sometimes you don’t even notice this until you feel all sorts of symptoms.
What if your best workout isn’t the one that exhausts you, but the one that meets your body where it is?
Precision health is about the right dose at the right moment.
High intensity when your body peaks.
Gentle movement when it needs restoration.
When effort aligns with your biology, something changes. Your recovery improves, consistency becomes easier, and you have energy that carries you beyond the workout.
Optimization isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about working with your body’s rhythm.
If you’re curious how to align movement with your biology, feel free to ask me about precision health coaching. ✨

What was meant to be a women’s retreat quietly became a couples’ retreat.
Seeing husbands choosing to support their wives during this transition was deeply heartwarming.
Perimenopause can feel confusing. Many women suddenly feel like their bodies are unfamiliar territory. Questions like, “Ako lang ba?”, “Akala ko mamatay na ako”, and “Naloloka na ba ako?” even came up during the retreat. In moments like this, the presence and understanding of a partner matters more than we realize.
As couples began to understand not only female biology, but each other’s unique biology, something shifted. There was more compassion, more empathy, and a deeper respect for how each person moves through their day.
One of the most important realizations from the retreat was this:
A woman’s body is not broken during perimenopause.
Menopause is not something to fear.
It is recalibration. A system maintenance.
It is an invitation to support the body differently.
And when couples understand this together, the journey becomes something they can navigate side by side.
Sometimes all it takes is the right space, the right conversations, and the willingness to understand the body differently.

We can’t restore estrogen to what it was. So let’s stop applying outdated strategies to a changed body.
Midlife biology requires recalibration.
Your energy, cognition, sleep, recovery, and stress response are now operating from a new hormonal baseline.
The women who continue to perform well listen and adapt to this shift.
Optimizing this season means aligning your nutrition, movement, and recovery with how your body functions now — not how it functioned a decade ago.
We don’t go backwards.
We move forward differently.

Why are some people razor-sharp in the morning while others do their best thinking later in the afternoon?
It’s not discipline nor willpower.
It’s biology. I found this so fascinating when I learned about circadian rhythms.
Circadian rhythms influence alertness, focus, reaction time, and even decision-making capacity.
Hormonal patterns, sleep cycles, and energy peaks shift across the day. They often shift again during midlife.
Trying to force high-focus work into low-energy windows can create unnecessary strain.
But aligning important tasks with your natural cognitive peak can make performance feel steadier and more sustainable.
Sometimes the question isn’t,
“How can I focus harder?”
But, “When does my brain naturally focus best?”
Your biology already has a rhythm. Being aware of it is often the first step toward working more intelligently and with less stress.
When do you think your brain works best?

We obsess over what we eat and how we exercise.
But WHEN YOU EAT and WHEN YOU MOVE can be just as important - especially in midlife.
Timing affects metabolism, hormone balance, and energy recovery.
Even short shifts like eating at slightly different times or exercising at your optimal window can dramatically improve focus, vitality, and resilience.
The smarter we are about timing, the stronger, clearer, and more energized we become.
This is part of our conversation in Marilag, a 3-day Wellness Retreat for Midlife Women.
Which timing would be optimal for your body?
March 6-8 would be a great time for you to join me in Nawa Wellness, Calatagan 😊. Feel free to message me “Marilag”. I’ll share the details privately.

There is a clarity that emerges in midlife.
There is less urgency to prove.
Less tolerance for what depletes. and a greater respect for what restores.
You begin to listen more closely, choose more carefully, and to trust more deeply.
Midlife is not the closing of a chapter.
It is a return to yourself, with greater wisdom than before.
Let’s celebrate this!

Midlife is often spoken about as something to manage and endure. That it’s something to fix because you are in a decline.
But, what if it is none of those things?
It’s a recalibration of your body’s natural shift that invites you to a deeper understanding of your body, your physiology, and your evolving needs.
With the right insight, midlife doesn’t become a crisis, but a beautiful and wonderful discovery.
It’s a refinement.
MARILAG was created as a space for that discovery.
Join me in a 3-day Precision Health Retreat for women in midlife from March 6-8 at Nawa Wellness, Calatagan. 🇵🇭
PM me for full details.

Two women who are 45.
One sleeps well. One wakes at 3am nightly.
One builds muscle easily. One struggles despite clean eating.
One needs quality animal protein to maintain good health. One would thrive best with a more plant-based diet.
Same age but different biology.
That’s why generic wellness advice fails so many women in midlife.
At my March wellness retreat, we explore your hormonal pattern, stress response, HealthType™️and your health blueprint. It’s 3 days of getting to know your uniqueness.
Your body was never meant to be guessed at. It was meant to be understood.
Feel free to message me “MARILAG” and I’ll send you the details.
