Pacer Duty. Another weekend, another run! The best feeling as a Coach is seeing your clients progress. Took only couple of weeks for preparations despite of their busy work schedule. Conquered their first actual running event. At the 2025 Rexona 10miler Makati series 5K Leg. Proud of you! Good Job!

Almost a week of rest up and healing process from sustained wounds. I am picking up mileage again. Today I woke up at 4:30am, joined and supported the Security Personnel of Rockwell Makati on their 5k fun run event. Happy to see them active and fit an assurance the community is well prepared and secured.

The Only Run That Made Me Bleed!

I understood event is at midnight. With 18k registered paticipants.
Its a big running event and everything was prepared from strategic location of water stations, Race Marshalls and LGU Traffic Officers. But one thing they missed this time. NO AMPLE amount of Light! The route was not lit up properly. There were spots that was pitch black covering pot holes and uneven asphalts. Which was extremely dangerous for runners.

Unfortunately I was a victim of that negligence.
Somewhere around the area of CCP complex I encountered that cracked road asphalt. Pacing at 5’40”/km, my right foot struck it. Sending me down both on my knees. If not of quick hand reflex, I would have ended face first planted on the ground.

For the Love of the game and adrenaline kicking in. I continued pushing forward and tried to focus despite of the pain and blood dripping from my knees and palms. Was able to crossed the finish line clocking a sub-2 for 21k.
At this point I seeked for event First aiders/Medic. While being attended inside the stand by ambulance. I’ve learned that there were more runners who had the same fate. Stumbled, Sprained and Tripped on pot holes and cracked asphalts because of poor visibility due to lack of back up lights along the route. How ironic the theme and general mechanics of the event was electrifying, “Neon-Lit Race” designed to transform city streets into glowing celebration of movement. Was not even bright enough to ensure the safety of the participants. Felt like I was a participant of that japanese game show Takeshi Castle.

Nevertheless, I will still continue doing this sport of marathon. Hoping organizers will choose and make safer routes for here in Manila.
