Entry by John Paul Caballeda

Mr. Wilmar F. Mamongay: The Coach, Leader, Father, General. In the year 2011, the Gen. Pio Del Pilar National High School Robotics team was under new management. The club that was formerly under the TLE Department was handed over to the Science Department. The lucky man that was assigned to handle the team was none other than Mr. Mamongay. During one of his speeches as the robotics coach, he admitted that he has only a small knowledge about building and programming robots but he promised us that he will help us in every way he can. During his first years, he did deliver his promise about helping us. He was working in background doing all of the necessary reports, requests, and letters in order to keep the team operating. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be able to compete in the 2012 National Robotics Competition. Mr. Mamongay trusts his team. He trusts them so much that he just lets the team do their thing. He allows them learn on their own. He's not the kind of coach that goes "Oh mali yung movement mo i-adjust mo yung ganito dito," instead he goes "Oh anak saan nagkaproblema? Mayroon bang way para maayos ‘yan? May ibang alternative ba para diyan? Kaya mo ‘yan tiwala lang.” Believe it or not, during competitions, Mr. Mamongay is rarely seen near the play area. Most of the time, he's outside buying food for the team or exploring the venue (he's an adventurous man). When times are tough, he always has the team covered. He always finds a solution for every problem the team faces. He never lets the team down and he never leaves anyone behind. In fact, when the team faces defeat or despair, he neither let his team feel down nor showed any signs of disappointment. Instead, he cheers them up and reminds them to charge it to experience, know what went wrong, and prevent it from happening again. There was also a time when he treated lunch for the team despite the loss and told them "Porket ba natalo tayo wala na tayong karapatang magcelebrate?” International competitions are challenge for him. There are a lot of factors that stresses him out and most of them are the paper works and the deadlines. For everyone's information, the process of requesting a fund from the government is not easy and fast. It takes so much time that sometimes the funds arrive after the competition. As the coach, it's his duty to process the necessary papers. It sometimes forces him to go back and forth from school to the city hall just for this purpose. He endures the stress and fatigue just so his team would be able to participate overseas. His hard work always pays off and always gets the team to the internationals. As a reward for himself, he explores the host country during the competitions. In conclusion, Mr. Mamongay is a simple yet effective coach. His coaching style is so efficient that the team was able to take home multiple trophies and medals from national and international competitions. He was the man that re-started the team from scratch and built it to be more successful. That's why he deserves to be recognized as "Best Coach Ever".

Our school ranked #6 in the last NRC that happened last January 15-16. It's still an achievement for we only joined two categories with 20 participants each. What's even more amazing is that we happened to surpass some of the "giant" schools that we look up to. I hope that the future set of participants would be able to maintain or even surpass this rank.

Here is a sumobot designed by two newly recruited members of our club that underwent our 2-day basic training. I am impressed that they came up with this design. It's super impressive for they have no background in robotics when they joined . i hope they improve further to the point they can make an incredible design in a short period of time.

The results of yesterdays unexpected training. I honestly expected it to be productive but i didn't expect it to be THIS productive. We reverse-engineered the robot design we saw on youtube and it's almost done already. The top mount was tricky but thanks to the current vice president we were able to mount it successfuly. In a couple of weeks we will start doing the most complicated program that this club has ever made.

RAK NA ITU!!!!!!

PS. Natuwa lang ako sa pic ni chief superintendent Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa kaya pasensya na.
