My Journey: From a Little Girl to Who I Am Today
Life has been a mix of challenges and blessings, shaping me into the person I am today. I’m a proud Filipino-Japanese girl, born to a Filipino mother and a Japanese father. I also have a brother who has been my constant companion through it all.
When I was three years old, I had a close connection with my father. But as I turned four or five, that bond faded, and I lost contact with him. It was a difficult reality for a young girl like me, but it made me admire my mother even more. She worked tirelessly to provide for us, taking on the heavy responsibility of being both our parent and provider.
My Mother's Journey Abroad
My mother worked in Japan for around 7 years, where she met my father. It was there that she had me and my brother. However, as time passed, my mother had to make tough decisions to ensure a better future for us.
My mother faced many hardships, especially when she and my father separated. She made the ultimate sacrifice of leaving us behind to work abroad so she could provide for our needs. She gave up the chance to see us, hug us, and personally take care of us to ensure we had everything we needed.
Over the years, my mother worked in various countries—Qatar, Hong Kong, and finally Kuwait. Despite the distance, she always ensured we felt her love and support.
Changes in Family
My parents are no longer in a relationship, and my mother eventually started dating someone new. I now have a stepfather and a stepbrother. While it hasn’t always been easy, I’m grateful for my stepfather’s efforts to take care of us. My mother has remained the anchor of our family, ensuring we feel strong, healthy, happy, and loved despite all the challenges.
Through everything, my tita, my family, and my parents taught me to trust in the Lord with all my heart. They taught me to pray and to share my burdens with Him. They reminded me that God is bigger than my problems and that He sees everything. He hears and answers prayers at the right time, with answers that are always better than what we could ever imagine.
When I was in Grade 1, I studied in Manila while my mother was working abroad. The separation was hard, but I understood even then that she was doing it for us. In Grade 2, I moved back to my grandparents' place. Then, during Grades 4 and 5, we moved again, this time to Kidapawan. Each move brought new experiences and challenges, but one thing remained constant—my mother’s unwavering love and sacrifices for us.
When I reached Grade 6, my mother finally came home, and I wanted to make her proud. I graduated as valedictorian with flying colors, and seeing her happy was one of the best moments of my life. It wasn’t just her smile—it was the pride in her eyes that made all the hard work worth it.
High School Years: From Fun to Trials
My first year in high school, Grade 7, was filled with fun and excitement. But things changed during Grade 8 when the pandemic hit. The next two years were tough; I couldn’t fully enjoy school the way I used to. However, when I reached Grade 10, happiness slowly found its way back into my life.
Lessons from Life
There may have been more challenging times for others than what I went through, but I can confidently say that my experiences taught me valuable lessons in life. I learned to appreciate, love, and value even the smallest things that come my way.
Because of my experiences, I grew to love my mother even more. I learned to dream bigger and work harder. Life gave me countless lessons, and I will use all of them as motivation and inspiration to succeed.
Moving Forward
I am now in my last year of senior high school, Grade 12. I continue to dream and work hard, and I will keep striving to fulfill my mother’s dreams for my brother and me. At the same time, I aim to achieve my own dreams—not only for myself but also for my mother and my entire family.
Looking back, I see how every moment—whether joyful or painful—shaped me. My mother’s sacrifices taught me resilience, love, and gratitude. Despite the hardships, she worked hard to provide for us, ensuring we had everything we needed to grow strong and happy.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to place my faith in the Lord, trusting in His timing and plans for my life. My family’s teachings about God’s greatness and love keep me grounded and strong.
