Long regarded as a lyrical reflection on love, memory, and the endurance of the past, Virginia Woolf’s short story A Haunted House is reexamined in a recent study that probes how its shifting narrative voices and layered perspectives reshape readers’ understanding of reality.
The research argues that the interweaving of living and ghostly perspectives blurs the distinction between life and death, and between reality and imagination, thus offering a new perspective on its “haunting” effect.
Mrs. Noeme Garces-Pitchuela, PhD (cand.), Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, recently published her study entitled “Fictive Narrativism and Multiperspectival Voice in Virginia Woolf’s A Haunted House: A Narratological Mapping of Speaker Ambiguity and Ghostly Focalization” in the International Review of Multidisciplinary Research (IRMR).

Great leaders are shaped by the choices they make today. To inspire future professionals, Liberal Arts students from Saint Joseph College conducted a series of school campaigns encouraging senior high school students to pursue programs such as AB Political Science, AB English Language Studies, and AB Philosophy.
The campaign reached different schools including Saint Joseph Academy of Matalom, Bato Academy, Saint Theresa School of Hilongos, Naval National High School–Hilongos, Leyte; Hilongos National Vocational School; Bato School of Fisheries; Estela National High School, Liloan, Southern Leyte; Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy, Liloan, Southern Leyte; and Liloan National Technical Vocational High School.
As part of the pioneering batch of the Political Science program, we proudly invite students to become part of the next batch and start their journey with us. This outreach was conducted under the guidance of our Dean, Rev. Fr. Johnrey Sibi, PhL, MA, together with the department staff who helped make this activity possible.
At Saint Joseph College – College of Liberal Arts, education is more than just attending classes or completing requirements. It is about discovering your purpose, strengthening your voice, and preparing yourself to make a difference in society.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the schools who welcomed us and supported our campaign. Your trust means a lot to us!
