CTHRM History
The BS Tourism program was introduced by the College of Arts and Sciences in 1996, while the BS Hotel and Restaurant Management appeared in the College of Business and Administration (now the College of Business and Accountancy) course that same year. The school management then decided to house the two academic programs under a single department, and thus the institute of Tourism an
d Hotel and Restaurant Management was born in the second semester of 1998. In response to the country’s growing tourism industry, CTHRM maintains dynamic and constantly-updated curricula calibrated to the highest standards of the hospitality industry here and abroad. The rigorousness of the college’s curricula improvement is equaled by the continuous improvement of its facilities. As a milestone in its history, the Dona Rosario Tourism-HRM Building was unveiled in July 2004 to serve as CTHRM’s first permanent home. Named in honor of Dona Rosario Lopez- Enverga, wife of the late founder Manuel S. Enverga, the edifice boasts actual hotel rooms and reception desks, seminar and function rooms, a culinary arts laboratory, a coffee shop and a bar and the Pacio de Dona Rosario. The college’s continuously expanding industry linkages cover and national government agencies, Philippine and international establishments, particularly in the United States of America where CTHRM seniors get a chance to undergo their on-the-job training in world- class hotels and restaurants. These linkages ensure not only high- caliber training for our students, but also provide invaluable job-placement opportunities for our graduates – a competitive edge of CTHRM unmatched by other hospitality – oriented HEIs in the province.
