We congratulate Dr. Roberth Riggs L. Rondilla from the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department of the College of Arts and Sciences, along with his co-authors from other university, for the successful publication of their book chapter entitled “Fungal Metabolomics and Analytical Techniques” in the book Advances in Fungal Secondary Metabolites: Bioactive Attributes and Biotechnological Potential of Industrial Interest.
Advances in Fungal Secondary Metabolites is published by Springer Nature, a leading global research publisher renowned for high-impact scientific and academic literature.

Good day, mycopeeps! 🍄

To conclude our lineup of invited speakers for the parallel sessions, we are pleased to introduce Roberth Riggs Rondilla.

Dr. Rondilla is a researcher in natural products metabolomics and a registered chemist. He completed his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2025 at the University of Strathclyde as a DOST-SEI scholar, where his research focused on the metabolomics-guided discovery of antibiofilm compounds from Philippine endolichenic fungi. He also earned his MSc and BSc in Chemistry from the University of Santo Tomas.

He currently serves as an Instructor at Southern Luzon State University, teaching chemistry and mentoring BS Biology thesis students. His research interests include natural product discovery, metabolomics, and functional foods.

Dr. Rondilla is also involved in a Philippine Council for Health Research and Development-funded project applying multi-omics approaches to study a rare neurological disease in the Philippines, while leading a research project on the metabolomics analysis of the famous Lucban longganisa. 🍄

· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 4831:2005 (ISO published 1991)

PNS ISO 4832:2025 Microbiology of food and animal feeding stuffs — Horizontal method for the enumeration of coliforms — Colony-count technique
· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 5553:2004 (ISO published 1980)

PNS ISO 6888-1:2025 Microbiology of the food chain — Horizontal method for the enumeration of coagulase-positive staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus and other species) — Part 1: Method using Baird-Parker agar medium · This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 6888-1:2005 (ISO published 1999 w/ Amd. 1:2003)

PNS ISO 7218-1:2025 Microbiology of the food chain — Microbiology of the food chain —General requirements and guidance for microbiological examinations
· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 7218:2022 (ISO published 2007 w/ Amd. 1:2013)

PNS ISO 13720:2025 Microbiology of food and animal – Microbiology of food and an animal feeding stuffs – Horizontal method for the detection and enumeration of coliforms – Most probable number technique
· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 4831:2005 (ISO published 1991)

PNS ISO 15213-2:2025 Microbiology of the food chain – Horizontal method for the detection and enumeration of Clostridium spp. Part 2: Enumeration of Clostridium perfringens by colonycount technique
· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 7937:2022 (ISO published 2004)

PNS ISO 16140-4:2025 Microbiology of the food chain – Method validation — Part 4: Protocol for method validation in a single laboratory
· This standard cancels and replaces PNS ISO 16140-4:2021 (ISO published 2020)

Official copies of promulgated PNS are available for a minimal fee at the BPS Standards Data Center located at the DTI Main Office, 3F Trade and Industry Building, 361 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

The DTI-BPS is the National Standards Body authorized to promulgate PNS. Conformance to PNS requirements is voluntary and may be used as reference by interested parties unless a regulatory authority uses the PNS as reference in the technical regulation for a specific product or service where conformance to PNS or parts thereof becomes mandatory.

All the best to our Head, Dr. Roberth Riggs Rondilla, who will be delivering the 35th Alfredo C Santos Lecture at the 30th Natural Products Society of the Philippines Convention, May 8-9, 2026 at the UST Manila Annex, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The Dr. Alfredo C. Santos Memorial Lecture is a prestigious plenary lecture featured at the annual convention of NPSP. The lecture honors Dr. Alfredo C. Santos, a National Scientist recognized as the "Father of Natural Products Research" in the Philippines for his pioneering work in the chemistry of Philippine medicinal plants.
