‎On August 20, 2026, the USM PALMA Cluster Campuses Conducted a Community Engagement Activity at Montay Elementary School (MES) as part of the Opening Celebration of the 7th Founding Anniversary of the USM PALMA Cluster Campuses. The activity focused on an orientation and the planting of calamansi seedlings, supporting the University’s Commitment to Community Extension and Environmental Sustainability.

‎The activity was participated in by 1st-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1BSA) students from USM PALMA, together with Prof. Leo M. Gayao, MSc; Mr. Basser L. Wagia, MSc; along with other USM PALMA faculty members and teachers of Montay Elementary School headed by Ma'am Jean B. Claven, MAEM, Ma’am Loida C. Valderrama, MAEd; and Sir Albert B. Berja, MAEd
‎
‎The program began with an orientation highlighting the importance of calamansi as a source of food, traditional medicine, and livelihood for many Filipino families. Following the orientation, the participants proceeded to the designated planting area, where students and faculty members worked together to plant the donated calamansi seedlings.
‎
‎The USM PALMA Cluster Campuses also extend their sincere appreciation to SOXAARRDEC, led by Dr. Julius Jerome Generao Ele, for its prompt response and valuable partnership with the USM PALMA Cluster Campuses in donating calamansi seedlings to Montay Elementary School.
‎
‎Through this collaborative initiative, USM PALMA, MES, and SOXAARRDEC continue to cultivate not only trees but also stronger partnerships, environmental awareness, and a shared commitment to a greener and more sustainable community. 🌱🤝💚

‎The festivities kicked off with an exciting Fun Run, where the Fire, Earth, Water, and Air groups raced with determination and enthusiasm, proving that the celebration was not only about competition but also about unity and teamwork. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

‎The excitement continued with the Sports Fest, featuring men’s and women’s volleyball and pickleball, at USM PALMA Covered Court along with girls’ and boys’ basketball at Montay Covered Court. Students from BSA, BS Crim, BSHM, BSBA, BSE, BSE-Mathematics, and USM Aleosan came together to showcase their skills, sportsmanship, and unwavering school spirit. 🏐🏀💪

‎More than just a day of sports, PASIGARBO sa PALMA 2026 brought the USM PALMA community closer through friendship, teamwork, and healthy competition. Together, we celebrate not only victory, but also the unity and pride that make the PALMA community stronger.

Community Engagement: Tree-Planting Preparation at Montay Elementary School

On August 18, 2026, a community engagement activity was conducted at Montay Elementary School as part of the preparations for the upcoming tree-planting activity during the opening celebration of the 7th Founding Anniversary of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM)–PALMA Cluster Campuses.

The activity was participated in by the 2nd Year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students from Libungan, together with their faculty members, Prof. Leo M. Gayao, MSc; Mr. Basser L. Wagia, MSc; Ma’am Loida C. Valderrama, MAEd; Sir Albert B. Berja, MAEd; and Ma’am Jean B. Clavel, MAEM.

As part of the preparation, the participants carried out clearing and holing activities at the designated tree-planting area. These tasks were undertaken to ensure that the site would be properly prepared and suitable for the planting of trees. Through their collective efforts, the students demonstrated cooperation, responsibility, and commitment to environmental conservation.

The activity was conducted in cooperation with Montay Elementary School and the SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXARRDEC). The engagement served not only as a preparation for the anniversary celebration but also as an opportunity for students and partner institutions to strengthen community involvement and promote environmental awareness.

The successful conduct of the activity highlights the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and communities in supporting sustainable environmental initiatives. Through activities such as tree planting and site preparation, students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills while contributing meaningfully to the protection and improvement of the environment.

Pimentel, President of the University of Southern Mindanao ,who personally visited the USM PALMA Cluster Campus together with several University officials on August 6, 2026, for the Meet and Greet activity held at the Covered Court of USM Libungan Campus.

‎President Pimentel was accompanied by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leorence C. Tandog, Financial Management Services Director Dr. Jay-R G. Vildac, Admission and Records Office Director Dr. Nelia O. Du, University Library (KEPLRC) Representative Gelita Garcia, University Student Governor Muhajar D. Samad and Office of Student Affairs Director Dr. Ma. Leida M. Donque to bring some of the University's key services closer to the students, faculty, and staff of Libungan Campus.

‎The Meet and Greet activity focused on the first-year students of the USM PALMA Cluster Campus. Welcome 346 Freshmen and recognizes Top USMCEE Passers. They were informed about the University's rules, services, and their rights and responsibilities as students. They were also given the opportunity to ask questions about their concerns.

USM–PALMA Cluster Campus Welcomes Students and Elects New Agriculture Student Leaders

‎ The University of Southern Mindanao – PALMA Cluster Campus successfully conducted its Orientation and Convocation, warmly welcoming both newly admitted and continuing students for the Academic Year 2026–2027. The event served as an opportunity to introduce students to university policies, academic programs, and campus life while inspiring them to pursue their educational goals with dedication, integrity, and excellence.
‎
‎Following the orientation, the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) students gathered for the Selection of Society and Classroom Officers. The activity brought together the First-Year BSA (1BSA) students, under the guidance of the Second-Year BSA (2BSA) students, to democratically elect their new student leaders.
‎
‎The election marked an important milestone in strengthening leadership, responsibility, and unity within the Agriculture student community. Through this process, students were given the opportunity to choose representatives who will serve as their voice and lead various academic and student activities throughout the school year.

The main purpose of the activity was to welcome everyone and to inform us about the programs, goals, and responsibilities under the department. It was also a chance for us to meet new people and understand how we can contribute as students and future leaders. During the orientation, we discussed important guidelines and the role of agriculture in our community, which made the event both informative and inspiring.
‎
‎Let us extend our warmest congratulations to the newly elected Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Society Officers. May they lead with integrity, serve with commitment, and inspire their fellow students as they work together toward a successful and productive academic year.
