✨ Dinner for a Cause | 50 Years of BU Biology ✨

In celebration of the 50th Founding Anniversary of the Biology Program of Bicol University, we warmly invite you to a Celebration and Charity Dinner on March 8, 2026 at Bulwagang BUeno.

As we honor five decades of academic excellence and the remarkable achievements of our graduates, we are launching this “Dinner for a Cause” to raise funds for new industrial classroom chairs for our lecture rooms at CSB3. Your participation will directly support the improvement of our learning facilities for future Biologists.

🎟 Ticket Price: ₱1,500 per person

This meaningful gathering will also officially kick off the series of activities for the Golden Year of BU Biology. For event details, please see the information in the photo below. Physical tickets are available upon request anytime this week.

Golden Roots, Living Futures

In 1976, the seeds were sown—ideas took root, and the vision to offer a Bachelor of Science in Biology was carefully incubated.

In School Year 1977–1978, this vision came to life as the BS Biology program officially opened its doors to first-year students. Classes were initially held at the Science Building of the College of Education, at a time when the College of Arts and Sciences and the Bicol University College of Education shared a single campus.

The program was then offered under the Department of Natural Sciences of the former College of Arts and Sciences.
By 1981, the program proudly produced its pioneer graduates, marking the beginning of generations of biologists trained in service of science and society.

As the university continued to grow, so did the program. The College of Arts and Sciences later transferred to the Multi-Purpose Building, now known as the Aquilino P. Bonto Building, where the Department of Natural Sciences occupied the third and fourth floors of the South Wing.

In the year 2000, the Department of Natural Sciences moved to the Daraga Campus, finding a new home in what is now known as the Mahogany Building, while some classes continued to be held at the Multi-Purpose Building.

A new chapter unfolded in 2004, when the program officially became part of the College of Science through the BU Comprehensive Development Plan. With this transition came a new identity—the Department of Biology—strengthening its commitment to scientific inquiry, innovation, and excellence.

Today, the BS Biology Program, offered by the Department of Biology, College of Science, Bicol University, Legazpi City, continues to thrive —standing on decades of history — golden roots shaping living futures.
