๐๐ช๐ต๐บ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฐ, ๐๐ข ๐๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ โ The ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ (๐ฅ๐๐) of Saint Louis College opened the school year with its first regular meeting on ๐๐๐ด๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐ฐ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, bringing together key members to set the tone for another year of ethical vigilance and service to the SLC research community.
Among the highlights of the meeting was the election of a new set of officers to lead the Committee. ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ ๐ข. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฑ of the School of Advanced Studies (SAS) was reelected as ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป, now entering her third year at the helm of the REC. Joining her in the leadership team are ๐ ๐. ๐๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ ๐. ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐๐ of the Criminology Program under the College of Law and Criminal Justice Education (CLCJE), elected ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ-๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป, and ๐ ๐. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ต๐ฎ ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฒ ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป of the Psychology Program under the College of Arts, Sciences, Technology, and Education (CASTE), who takes on the role of ๐ ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ-๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐. The meeting likewise served as a venue for disseminating updates on REC activities and ongoing projects for the school year.
Following the election, Dr. Sanidad addressed the newly reconstituted REC with words of encouragement and reflection. She invited the members to draw inspiration from the words of CICM founder ๐๐ฟ. ๐ง๐ต๐ฒฬ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐, who taught that nothing is difficult for one who loves what one is doing.
She was candid about the weight of the task ahead, acknowledging that the work of the REC carries real responsibility and accountability โ members and the Chair alike are called to answer for the ethical integrity of every review they undertake, and for the risks that come with that trust. Central to this, she noted, is the Committee's ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐: the duty to judge each proposal with rigor and honesty, to seek truth over convenience, and to ensure that every ethical determination rendered is one the Committee can stand behind โ not merely procedurally, but in good conscience. Yet she affirmed, without hesitation, the enduring value of the Committee's mission, once more pointing the members back to the Founder's simple but steadying wisdom.
As the REC begins this new term under its reconstituted leadership, the Committee carries forward not only its mandate to safeguard the ethical conduct of research at SLC, but also the spirit of dedication and love for the work โ and the disciplined pursuit of truth โ that Fr. Verbist himself once modeled.
