As you leave the halls of the Benguet State University College of Nursing, may you continue to embody the values that have shaped you into an everlasting BSU nurse. Student nurses from the Benguet State University, College of Nursing namely, Mara A. Chinayeo, Dan Hill Estocapio, Janno Travis Lartec and Zyra Toyaoan attends Pagtalinaedan: Northern Luzon Student Press Convention on May 30 - 31, 2026. They served as the representing team for the presentations of the “The Nightingale” in News Journalism, Development Communications and Culture Writing in both English and Filipino categories. This virtual event was an invocation to the standards of responsible campus journalism upholding ethics, integrity, technical competence, and social relevance.

Amid fierce competition and a shared commitment to people-oriented journalism, student journalists 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙨 𝙇𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙘 and 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝘼. 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙤 emerged victorious at 𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐍: 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐋𝐮𝐳𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, held virtually via Microsoft Teams on May 30–31.

The Nightingale student-journalists proudly showcased their talent, intellect, and passion for truth at the 7th Intercollegiate Press Conference, held at Benguet State University (BSU) Library from April 13–16.

Demonstrating journalistic excellence and academic rigor, the team stood out among delegates from various institutions, earning top placements across multiple event categories:

Leading the publication, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐀. 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐨, Editor-in-Chief, was also honored for her exceptional leadership, profound expertise, and dedicated service to the college publication for Academic Year 2025–2026, alongside fellow editors-in-chief from various institutions.

‎Small Circle, Transformative Exchange: NARS Conducts Leadership Focused Session

‎In an academic setting often defined by numbers and scale, the recently concluded leadership talk igniting the theme, "Leadership on Point: Maintaining Values and Virtue in the Workplace that Globally Transcends Healthcare" hrlad at the Plenary Hall, College of Medicine of the Benguet State University proved that impact is not measured by crowd size, but by the depth of learning shared within a space.

‎The activity gathered a focused group of student nurse leaders from the College of Nursing. Though modest in attendance, the seminar cultivated a reflective environment where meaningful dialogue and personal insights flourished. The intimacy of the session allowed participants to engage more authentically, that is; asking questions, sharing experiences, and internalizing leadership principles.

‎Further, central to the seminar were the enduring concepts of Maxwellian leadership, inspired by John C. Maxwell. The discussion emphasized that leadership is not defined by position, but by influence, integrity, and intentional growth. Participants explored key principles such as leading by example, adding value to others, and the importance of character-driven leadership, concepts especially relevant in the field of nursing, where compassion and ethical responsibility are paramount.

‎The seminar highlighted that even within a small group setting, enormous lessons can emerge. Student nurse leaders reflected on how values and virtue serve as the backbone of professional conduct, particularly in healthcare environments that demand both competence and moral clarity.

‎Resource Speaker Profile: Gerard C. Felipe

‎Gerard Felipe was born at SLU Hospital in Baguio in 1999 and hails from Acop, Tublay, Benguet. At the age of four, he migrated from the Philippines and was raised in New Zealand before settling in Australia, where he has lived for over 15 years.
‎
‎He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Politics, with a minor in Human Rights, from Monash University. Demonstrating early leadership and initiative, Gerard began working at just 16 years old as a Marketing Coordinator at Crimson Education. At 17, he made history as the first Chairman of the Victorian Student Executive Council.

‎At the equilibrium of his work and academic pathway, he continued to break barriers serving as the first ECA Representative to the Philippines and later becoming the first Youth Mayor in the history of Frankston City Council at just 19 years old in 2018.
‎
‎Beyond his professional achievements, Gerard is also a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate and served as Head Instructor of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) of Geelong, establishing the first Shotokan Karate school in the City of Greater Geelong. His career continued to make history as he became the first and youngest Asian employee at the Geelong Chamber of Commerce.

‎In 2025, he was recognized as a finalist in the Geelong Under 25 Youth and Leadership Award- once again making history as the first Asian to reach this distinction.

Our successful medical mission was more than just an outreach—it was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when hearts unite for a greater cause. From early preparations to the final patient served, every effort was driven by one goal: 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏, 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓.

We witnessed not just consultations and treatments, but genuine human connections—smiles of relief, words of gratitude, and moments that truly touched our hearts. Each patient served is a story of hope, and each volunteer becomes a vessel of kindness and service.

This mission would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our student nurses, partners, and the community itself, who generously gave their time, skills, and resources. Your commitment turned this vision into reality. As we look back, we carry with us the impact of every life we touched and the inspiration to continue reaching more communities. Because at the end of the day, service is not just what we do—it’s who we are.
