The true measure of a research summit lies not just in the lectures delivered, but in the caliber of questions asked. As the morning program and plenary sessions concluded at the 4th Nursing Annual Research Summit (NARS), the floor opened to the student delegates, sparking a rigorous and dynamic exchange of ideas.
Expertly steered by open forum moderator
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ, ๐ ๐๐ก, ๐ฅ๐ก, the discourse allowed future nurses to directly address the pressing realities of clinical practice, technological integration, and educational challenges with the summit's distinguished international panel.
Addressing the rising concern of automation bias where healthcare workers might stop double checking highly accurate systems, delegates questioned how future community nurses can be trained to use technology as an assistant without losing their independent clinical judgment.

During the latter part of the program, another open forum was also held to accommodate questions for Keynote Speaker ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ถรฑ๐ผ and ๐๐ฟ.
When asked how Filipino nurses can prepare for this field, Dr. Diรฑo highlighted the need for global education, pointing out that countries like the US are heavily advancing in space exploration.
โIf you would like to be one of the aerospace nurses... you need to have an advanced degree which is based in [another] country," Dr. Diรฑo advised, noting that institutions like the University of Central Florida host dedicated research facilities for NASA.
This global and technological foresight was powerfully grounded by discussions with Dr. Rudolf Cymorr Kirby P. Martinez. When a graduate student inquired about how the Filipino concept of kapwa influences a patient's compliance to treatment, Dr. Martinez offered a profound paradigm shift.
"If your perspective of the other is your kapwa, you should not focus on compliance, because the concept of compliance already emphasizes an imbalance of power," Dr. Martinez explained to the delegates. "In nursing, we are a โkaagapayโ... we travel with the person. You don't get to decide for them. You cannot empower a person. The person will empower themselves."
By actively interrogating innovation with deeply rooted patient advocacy, the delegates transformed the forum into a crucible for future clinical leaders. The exchange proved they are ready not only to consume research but to actively reshape it.
The Open Forum marked the end of the morning events for NARS 4.0.

๐, detailing a structured, visionary roadmap to integrate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) into Thailandโs nursing curricula.
Her address emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between traditional nursing and global digital healthcare by training nurses who are โfuture-readyโ to actively create a culture of excellent healthcare innovations.
To achieve this, the proposed framework relies on two foundational pillars. The first pillar is the Outcome-Based Education where students undergo a 4-year scaffolded AI Journey from Foundation Literacy, Applied Nursing Science, Advanced Practice and finally, to Synthesis and Elective Practice, which allows active learning and mentor guidance to better help students turn classroom concepts into real clinical prototypes.
Next, the second pillar, the Co-Curricular Ecosystem where students could build professional resilience and gain feedback through specialized bootcamps and collaboration with cross-faculty and external AI specialists even outside the classroom.
To support this, Prof. Saisit noted that educators are being upskilled to lead in instructional design which are represented by already emerging real-world results such as projects like ChatX, elderly care bots and mental health bots.
Ultimately, this comprehensive blueprint ensures that upcoming nursing graduates enter the workforce with advanced digital literacy, elevating Thailandโs status in the global healthcare arena while delivering immediate, tech-driven care to local and in the near future, the international communities.

In one of the standout sessions of NARS 2026, ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ถ delivered a clarifying statement that reframed the roomโs understanding of artificial intelligence in public health:โ๐๐ ๐ช๐ด ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ข ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ข ๐ด๐ฐ๐ง๐ต๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฆ, ๐ช๐ต ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ญ๐บ ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ท๐ฆ๐ด ๐ข๐ด ๐ข ๐จ๐ถ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ.โ The distinction, she argued, carries real clinical weight. A tool acts on behalf of its user while a guide illuminates a path without walking it. When health professionals treat AI as a tool, they risk surrendering judgment to a system that cannot navigate the cultural, social, and structural realities shaping the lives of vulnerable populations.
Communities with the most to gain from intelligent health surveillance, including migrant workers, indigenous groups, the rural elderly, and the urban poor, are often the least represented in the datasets these systems learn from. The result is technology that reinforces existing gaps rather than closing them, reaching those already inside the health system while leaving the most marginalized further behind.
Her call to action was direct.
AI can synthesize data, surface patterns, and flag risk, but the decision, the advocacy, and the responsibility belong to the nurse. Equipping the next generation of public health professionals with both AI literacy and sharpened ethical judgment, she concluded, is not optional. It is the foundation of health equity in an intelligent-systems era.

Care revealed itself as the hibla that weaves together oneโs sense of identity, humanity, and connection as Filipino Nursologist ๐ฅ๐๐ฑ๐ผ๐น๐ณ ๐๐๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ ๐ฃ. ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ revisited the foundations of nursing through Filipino Caring Science, where research is grounded beyond lived realities, Filipino values, and meaningful encounters shared between nurse and patient.
Central to the discussion was his nuanced perspective of his theory ๐ก๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด-๐ฆ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป-๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด-๐ ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ (๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฟ๐) which views caring as an intentional presence expressed through empathy, attentiveness, and relational understanding. Dr. Martinez emphasized that nursing research should illuminate the emotional, spiritual, and interpersonal dimensions of healing that are often overlooked within purely clinical measurements.
Anchored in the NURCAM Theory was the idea of championing kaginhawaanโthe aspiration for an optimal human condition and the flourishing of human potential. Drawing from the Filipino understanding of ginhawa, he described kaginhawaan as the ability to โbreathe with ease,โ encompassing health, wellness, comfort, and relational harmony.
Dr. Martinez explained that this professional intent to promote kaginhawaan of kapwa is what gives nurses their many faces: creator of caring moments, ritualistic healer, champion of kaginhawaan, tagapaghilom, and kabaybay. Through these roles, nurses become distinct in their professional identity, rooted in the science and art of caring rather than merely mirroring other health professions.
He further highlighted Filipino values such as malasakit and pakikipagkapwa as essential foundations of nursing inquiry. These values enable Filipino nurses to produce culturally grounded yet globally relevant research that reflects both scientific rigor and compassionate care within the Philippine healthcare setting.

The plenary concluded with a compelling reminder that the future of nursing research depends not only on innovation, but also on the professionโs commitment to preserving the human experience at the center of care. His resonating message inspired participants to pursue scholarship that advances nursing science while remaining deeply anchored in authentic caring.
