Talubangi National High School officially launched its Intramurals 2026, bringing together Cyans, faculty, and staff in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and unity.

The campus came alive with excitement and school pride as each team showcased energetic cheers, captivating performances, and colorful banners, displaying determination and enthusiasm as they prepared for the competitions ahead and adding vibrancy to the opening program.

The personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP)–Kabankalan, headed by Police Staff Sergeant Alcala, conducted a symposium focusing on "Active Shooting, Active Threats, and Violence." Meanwhile, Ma'am Sheryl D. Tomo, LPT, RGC, discussed "School Safety and Psychosocial Wellness: A Psychoeducation Session for Learners."

The symposium was conducted in response to the recent shooting threat received by the school and aimed to promote awareness, preparedness, and the overall safety and well-being of learners.

| 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲: 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to recognize the more than 110 Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples across the Philippines who keep our nation’s oldest traditions alive. From the Igorot in the Cordilleras and the Ati here in Panay, to the Mangyan in Mindoro and the Lumad in Mindanao, Indigenous communities are living libraries of knowledge. Their culture is not locked in museums. It is practiced every day in how they farm, how they heal, how they weave, and how they speak to one another and to the land.

One of the strongest ways Indigenous communities preserve culture is through oral tradition and intergenerational teaching. Elders teach children through stories, chants, and rituals. Epics like the Hinilawod of the Panay-Bukidnon and the Hudhud of the Ifugao are memorized and performed, passing down history, values, and law without a single textbook. Skills are also taught by doing. Young people learn to weave t’nalak with the T’boli, to play the gangsa and kulintang, to plant heirloom rice on terraces, and to identify medicinal plants in the forest. In many communities, the local language is still the first language at home, keeping words, proverbs, and ways of thinking intact.

Land and ceremony are central to cultural preservation. For Indigenous Peoples, culture and territory cannot be separated. Ancestral domains are where rituals are held, where crops are planted according to lunar cycles, and where sacred sites are protected. Festivals, thanksgiving rites, and community gatherings reinforce identity and unity. In Western Visayas, the Ati continue to practice traditional dance and healing, and their history is remembered in community celebrations. Food is also culture, from cooking methods to the seeds that have been saved and shared for generations. Every meal, craft, and song is an act of remembering.

Preserving culture today also means adapting while staying rooted. Indigenous youth are recording songs, documenting weaving patterns, and using social media to share their languages and art. On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we are reminded that when we support Indigenous communities by listening to them, learning from them, and respecting their right to practice their traditions, we help ensure that these cultures continue to thrive. A Philippines that honors Indigenous Peoples is a Philippines that keeps its deepest roots alive.

|| 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝘆𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶 𝗡𝗛𝗦’ 𝗨𝗱𝘆𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆

One dingy gymnasium harbored an anticipation of a century. With sweaty palms and faltering eyes, exhausted dancers huddle beneath the stage with ears ready to filter out one name amidst the noise.

As if performing in an arena didn't have enough thrill, dancers leave to the fates what goes beyond the curtain call.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻

“I felt so proud sang nalawag ang Talubangi [TNHS] as 2nd runner-up since after 18 years, subong lang nakabalik sa stage ang TNHS.”

Those are the words of one of the Udyakan participants that danced their way to victory.

For almost two decades, Talubangi National High School (TNHS) has not participated in the Udyakan Dance Competition. This year, however, the school pushed through all odds to participate at the Udyakan 2026 Arena Dance Competition, and brought home the 2nd runner-up title.

Surely, there is science behind winning—and it is something the school is starting to master.

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

For a month, teachers, trainers, and the Udyakan dancers poured unwavering dedication to perfecting choreographies, planning formations, and honing skills. But like everything, it started small. Everyone had to conquer hurdles before making it to the arena.

Sir Jerson Fernandez, the Talubangi NHS Udyakan Coordinator, felt the weight of leadership on his shoulders as preparations kickstarted.

“As the coordinator of the Udyakan, I am very much challenged because knowing that for 18 years, Talubangi NHS never joined or [was] part of the Udyakan Festival and that is a big challenge for me and with my partner. My vision was to build more than just a group of dancers who could perform well…I envisioned Udyakan as a group that could step into the arena with confidence not only because of their technical skills, but because they knew that every movement represented our collective story, culture, and dedication.” he stated.

Dancers spent tireless nights by the campus to train: synchronizing every step and taking-in rhythms to bring their best performance into fruition. Literal blood, sweat, and tears have been shed. Through discipline, hard work, and willpower, dancers survived intense drills and rehearsals that gave way to a spectacular performance.

Zahyena Repullo, one of the Udyakan performers, told remarkably about her experience:

“At first, I really felt nervous knowing nga I don't have much of experience pero after a month of continuous practice, a lot of improvement ang nakuha ko. Being part of the winning group is worth being proud of especially because I got the chance to participate [sa] sini nga contest nga gina-represent ang school,” she shares.

Of course, with multiple talents and insights combined, their performance carried the support and dedication of a community.

“Everyone involved, from the dancers and choreographers to the production and support team contributed to the final performance…’Mga last minute nga edit sang saot’ amo ang pinakakapoy kay tungod nga palitikan mo gid kay may ginalaot ka nga oras.” Sir Fernandez stated.

𝗨𝗱𝘆𝗮𝗸, 𝗧𝗡𝗛𝗦!

This victory showcases the science behind winning, that it's not too late to start and change the course, that winning doesn't have to mean having the greatest title, and most importantly, that everything that is consistently worked hard and sacrificed for—-no matter how big or small—is a win.

“Udyakan became a reminder that a great performance is not created on the day of competition. It is built through commitment, sacrifice, perseverance, trust, and a shared vision. The arena was simply where we finally showed [not only] to Kabankalan festivities but to the entire world what we had worked so hard to become.” Sir Fernandez added.

Talubangi NHS may have been silent for 18 years, but the fire we have way back has not disappeared. With the Cyans’ unwavering passion and drive to improve and the science of winning by our side, we foster a community where every step towards a purposeful goal is a victory.

|| The Talubangi NHS community rejoices as Udyakan dancers clench 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫-𝐔𝐩 on the Arena Dance Competition under the Udyakan Dance Category, held at the Kabankalan Festive Park this August 2, 2026.

After years of taking a break from participation, this triumph proves that real winners stem from grit and hardwork to bring back well-deserved glory.

Expressive, exuberant, and iridescent--the Talubangi National High School dancers exquisitely framed energy in motion during the Udyakan Street Dance Competition on August 1, 2026.

As they danced along Guanzon Street to the Kabankalan Festive Park, the participants showcased synchronization, expertise, and enthusiasm--bringing along the pride of being a TNHSian with the blend of competitiveness and love for culture.
