In this light, maybe some of us just needs some words of encouragement from a knowing ate, someone who had gone through the same hardships of our course and had survived them all. โจ๐ฅ
With the final exams fast approaching and our deadlines all gathering into a whirlpool, we reckon itโs time to take some validation from the words of recently licensed Registered Chemist, Ms. Suhailah Adam Mamaluba. Answering some of the most meaningful questions about the journey of becoming a chemist, Ms. Suhailah bares the truth about the grit and grind that we all just need to hear in these moments of great stress. Read on to see the full interview.

Well at first, it was overwhelming and I feel proud to myself because I know I did my best to pass CLE. But I canโt rejoice that much knowing that my co-takers from USM also struggled a lot just to pass the exam, and some of them are my friends too, thatโs why I kept myself humble on this part.

We all know BS Chemistry is really challenging degree, and I find it hard to have my favorite and least fav. But I have to say that my faveโs are Biochem and Physical Chem, the least would be Organic Chem cos I really have hard time understanding this subject that I have to say โBahala na si Supermanโ when I was in college ๐๐

To be honest, it was not my first choice. It was either Accountancy or Med Tech. Itโs just that the queue for BS Chem is not long, also itโs my parentโs choice.

Hardest thing about being a Chemist and Chemistry Student are 2 different things. The struggle as Chemistry Student is so much more than being a chemist. As a student, your main goal is to pass each subject and acquire new learnings, both are not easy in Chemistry. You may have experience discouragements and disappointments to yourself, sleepless nights just to study, doses of caffeine to keep you awake (palpitation is real), problematic thesis (may possibly cause delayed graduation hahah), etc, all of these struggles doesnโt end not until you pass the Board Exam. Once you become a Chemist, opportunities are all over. You donโt have to worry about your employment, you just have to make one wise and right decision on choosing your job/career. Well, being a chemist is not all on a good side, you just have to handle everything with professionalism and with class ๐
As I mentioned, BS Chem was not first choice. But I stayed despite how hard the degree was because of the eagerness to wanting to learn more. Chemistry is very interesting, it ainโt Central Science for nothing. Itโs difficult to pass each subject but at least โhindi nag iisaโ hahaha, kidding aside. Also with some encouragements that the demand on Chemist Professionals is high and you can easily get a job once you graduate, it is indeed.
It takes a lot of time, effort and focus. I had to sacrifice my job to give more time and focus on my review. Also, you have to discipline yourself and manage your time well. Keep yourself on track and most important of all, pray. Always ask guidance and confidence from Him. Prayers are really powerful.
Excellence in Chemistry is being able to understand things from the smallest atoms and applying it to a wide scope of science and life. Chemistry exists from discovering, developing and improving science.

Were you also shocked that Ms. Suhailah joined the quad because โkaunti lang ang pila noong enrolmentโ? Or were you more shocked to learn that her favorites were Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry? Whatever your thoughts are, weโd love to hear them! Leave a comment below!
