Led by Barangay Bus-Bus, in Partnership with Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) and Sulu State College (SSC), and in Collaboration with the National Commission of Literary Arts and the National Commission (NCLA) on Culture and Arts (NCCA)

The theme is rooted in the confluence of two maritime languages of the Sulu Archipelago, โ€œTahik Anugpat โ€“ Parsugpatan sin Kapuโ€™an pa Binaybayan.โ€ The Sinama phrase โ€˜tahik anugpatโ€™ translates as โ€œthe oceans connect," while the Bahasa Sลซg phrase โ€˜parsugpatan sin kapuโ€™an pa binaybayanโ€™ means โ€œconnectivity from island to sea, from sea to island.โ€ Anchored in these expressions, the First Sulu National Literary Conference seeks to explore the Sulu Sea and the surrounding archipelago as fluid worldsโ€”spaces of transition, transaction, and transformation. The conference positions the Sulu zone not merely as geography but as a living archive of stories, memories, and creative energies flowing through the islands of the Nusantara (Malay World).

This gathering aims to bring together bearers and recipients of the heritage of memoriesโ€”poets, writers, scholars, storytellers, and artistsโ€”to engage in conversations that honor, reinterpret, and reimagine the oceanic consciousness of the Sulu Archipelago and beyond.

With this, the conference has the following objectives:
1. To provide a platform for writers, poets, and cultural workers to share creative and critical works inspired by the oceanic and insular worlds of the Sulu Archipelago and the Nusantara region.
2. To encourage interdisciplinary dialogues across literature, performance, visual arts, and oral traditions.
3. To strengthen regional literary and cultural linkages between Mindanao, the Visayas, Luzon, and neighboring maritime communities of Southeast Asia.
4. To promote indigenous languages, oral literatures, and creative expressions rooted in the cultures of the sea.

The conference will be held on November 19-20, 2025, in Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) and Sulu State College (SSC) in Jolo, Sulu. Interested applicants may register for presentation, attendance, and/or performance through the following link:
