UNEP Student Journalists Shine at RSPC, Bring Home 15 Medals in Legazpi City
The University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) once again proved its journalistic excellence as its student journalists brought home a remarkable 15 medals during the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held on January 27โ30, 2026, in Legazpi City.
The event gathered the best campus journalists from province and city divisions across the Bicol Region, making the competition highly competitive and prestigious.
Highlighting the achievement was Danica Mae Datoy, who earned 2nd Place in Pagsulat ng Lathalain under the mentorship of Ms. Theresa Ann Derecho.
The Radio Broadcasting English Team also made UNEP proud by securing 3rd Place in Best in Infomercial and 5th Place in Best in Script. The team was composed of Cyra Lou Albalate, Roel Velasco, Leila Lagatic, Rizzi Karlen Ibanita, Jaymee Caroline Razon, Crisia Faye Viรฑas, and Gian Andrei Celetaria, coached by Ms. Karla Marie Daza and Ms. Luz Clarita C. Dacara.
Aside from the medalists, UNEP also fielded strong contenders who qualified at the regional level and proudly represented the Iriga City Division. These included the Radio Broadcasting Filipino Team composed of Nash Achero, Rodessa Salvadora, Albert Ibarrientos, EJ Puno, Ranjit Sahurda, Sophia Factor, and Rhizel Mae San Jose; Amber Kim Sepagan for Feature Writing; Ayessa Bianca Nolasco for Column Writing; Mateo Barroga for News Writing; Kevin Abonita for Editorial Cartooning; Yla Princess Andrea Orlanda for Photojournalism; Kate Lee Sepcon for Copy Reading and Headline Writing; Shane Joira Silva for Sports Writing; and Amanda Nicole Bordon, Editor-in-Chief, for the School Paper Entry category.
The delegation was guided by dedicated coaches Karla Marie Daza, Luz Clarita Dacara, Jodielyn Alarba, Theresa Ann Derecho, Ryan Biag, Keziah Shane Dimabayao, Rea May Baliwag, and Jhonalyn Albino, with full support from School Principal Froilan Celetaria.
UNEPโs strong showing at the RSPC reflects its continued commitment to developing responsible, skilled, and competitive campus journalists ready to shine on the regional and national stage.
