The Philippine Science High School β Western Visayas Campus (PSHS-WVC) marked a historic milestone with the grand unveiling of its Technology Licensing Office (TLO) during its inaugural ceremony on January 23, 2025. The event was a significant step toward fostering innovation and strengthening collaborations between the academe and industry, propelling the region toward a more technology-driven future.
The TLO, established with the vision of bridging the gap between scientific research and practical applications, aims to harness the scientific expertise and groundbreaking studies of PSHS-WVC's students and faculty. It ensures that these developments benefit the institution and contribute meaningfully to society. The office will serve as a hub for managing and promoting the intellectual property developed within the institution.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including members of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Science High School Systemβs Board of Trustees, Dr. Danilo Lachica and Engr. Elaine Morales, and the Executive Director of the PSHS System, Dr. Ronnalee N. Orteza. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Also in attendance were Dr. Jessamyn Marie O. Yazon, Chief Science Research Specialist of the PSHS Systemβs Research, Policy, and Academics Division; Dr. Josette T. Biyo and Dr. Shena Faith M. Ganela, former Campus Directors of PSHS-WVC; Dr. Myrna B. Libutaque, current Campus Director of PSHS-WVC; Dr. Rex Forteza, Campus Director of PSHS-CALABARZONRC; Dr. Rachel Luz V. Rica, Campus Director of PSHS-CVisC; Dr. Mary Grace Navarro, Campus Director of PSHS-IRC; and Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, Regional Director of DOST Region VI.
The event was also joined virtually by Director Noel A. Their ongoing partnership and steadfast support have been crucial in bringing the vision of the TLO to life, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing research and technology transfer.
The faculty and staff of PSHS-WVC, along with scholars enrolled in the Physics Innovation Elective, also witnessed this momentous occasion.
The event also highlighted the remarkable contributions of the internal team behind the TLOβs creation. Faculty, staff, and students who worked tirelessly behind the scenes were acknowledged for their collaborative efforts in making this event a success. Their hard work promises to shape the future of PSHS-WVC as an innovation-driven institution committed to making a meaningful impact on the community.
"We are proud to inaugurate the Technology Licensing Office today, not just as a physical space but as a symbol of our commitment to turning scientific knowledge into real-world solutions. Through this office, we aim to create opportunities that will allow us to give back to our community and beyond," said Mr. Erwin D. Alimpuangon, the Technology Licensing Officer of PSHS-WVC, in his speech during the ceremony.
The TLO will focus on protecting intellectual property and facilitating technology transfer. Through these efforts, it aims to transform the research and innovations from PSHS-WVC into marketable products and services that will benefit various sectors of society. As PSHS-WVC continues to pave the way for groundbreaking research and development, the inauguration of the TLO marks the beginning of a promising future for the institution, its partners, and the community.
