The Ilonggo fantasy action film “Animo” has officially been selected for the “Directors of Shorts Program IV: Connect the Dots” lineup at the San Diego Filipino Film Festival (SDFFF) 2023.
Directed by Raymund Encanto Salao, the short film revolves around a young man named Nonoy, who gained supernatural abilities and unlocked the secrets of an amulet that was handed down from generation to generation by his grandfather.
Nonoy awakens the consciousness of Crisostomo Ytum, a Hangaway sang Puti nga Kabal (Warrior of the White Energy), who has fought evil for a long time, and is now destined to fight new threats looming from the darkness of evil.
“Animo” stars Jiego Agustine Galila Jeffrey Jiruma, and Jezrel Agudo. Completing the cast are Gabriel Lloyd Gazo, Stephen Tabares, and Dianna Mateo Baloran.
The 20-minute film is produced by APASSA Films, an Iloilo-based Independent Film Production Outfit. The fight scenes were made possible by a collaboration with PARKOUR Iloilo.
“Animo” is scheduled to screen at AMC Plaza Bonita in San Diego, California, USA on October 5, 2023.

Parkour is a training discipline where practitioners (called traceurs) aim to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assisting equipment and in the fastest and most efficient way possible. It includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, plyometrics, rolling, and quadrupedal movement—whatever is suitable for the situation.
