In the midst of uncertainty, it was a typical day for a petite and bored girl. Restricted to the comforts of her own home, she scrolled through the different social media sites and thought of something else to do. As a creative and playful teenager, an idea popped into her mind, and she created jewelry for herself. Little did she know that it was a glimpse of a gigantic future for a 19-year-old student.

It was the start of the Handmade by Belleiame owner, a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management 2A student, and a young entrepreneur, 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐨. Last July 2022, it all started with her creating her pieces of jewelry as she discovered this kind of stuff through the influence of social media. As she expanded and learned this kind of art and craft, she explored and went through the process of marketing her business online.

At first, she did not believe in her capabilities as a business owner. "I do not perceive myself as a business-minded person, despite what my close friends have told me, but as time passed, I realized that I could do it, as running this business is more about my passion for it than the profit," Trisha said in a close-up interview. She remained persistent in pushing and setting up her business, owing to her passion and fiery determination to influence lives and create products that would hold a particular place in the overall presence of people.

She always believed to her core that being a passionate person was more important than profit. She expressed, "Business for me is not just about gaining profit; it is about how capable I am of making other people happy, satisfied, and inspired." She wanted to make her customers, especially random people buying her products, feel good about themselves through her handicrafts, as they aim to promote diversity regardless of gender. This was the theme and principle of her business: "We choose to be extra, and we chase diversity."

Her small business, Handmade by Belleiame, started with a one-man team and is now growing and providing work for some CBM students and helping them earn money. They offer a variety of beaded and pearl accessories at reasonable prices, such as necklaces, bracelets, anklets, rings, and lanyards.

"I hope that one day my handmade creations will be successful and can inspire and touch the creativity of other people's hearts," she expressed. This is her goal, and her early exposure to the industry demonstrates that she is the epitome of passion and is ready for unexpected situations that will aid her learning process and make her more prepared for the future.

I've always been a business-minded person. Since the pandemic began, I've developed a passion for crocheting. I tried making few pieces and thought about selling them to make some money. I've started my own handmade business thanks to my incredibly supportive family and friends. However, this type of business takes a lot of time, and along with doing my schoolworks, I began to lose time for myself. But I persisted, and all of my efforts were never in vain.

Most of my customers loved it, although others were less enthusiastic. You know that everything you buy from a small business is a little bit more expensive than what you see in malls because they take their time and put their heart and soul into each of your orders. I had a bad experience that caused me to stop making handmade stuffs for a while. But, I believe it is a blessing in disguise. I realized that working all day without taking a break wasn't good for my health.

I also became a reseller for the VIYLINE and BABE FORMULA brands, which is a lot less work than crocheting. Right now, I'm not crocheting much and I merely consider it as a hobby. I also need to focus on graduating because I know that the future holds more opportunities for me.

To everyone who plans to start their own small business, especially for handmade businesses, it will be very challenging at first. Not everyone will support you, not everybody will appreciate your work, but you need to thrive harder and learn from them. Don't be the same, be better so that you can have the financial freedom to create a life you love!
