Project RISE successfully concluded its Culmination Activity for Reading Ambassadors this afternoon, May 6, 2026โ€”an inspiring celebration of dedication, collaboration, and commitment to literacy.

The Reading Ambassadors, composed of passionate pre-service teachers under the guidance of Prof. Grageda and Asst. Prof. Caparoso, were deployed to assist in the recently conducted post-assessment of Grade 1 learners. Their active involvement provided valuable support in evaluating learnersโ€™ reading progress while giving them meaningful, hands-on teaching experience.

One of the highlights of the program was the creative sharing of experiences by selected ambassadors, who reflected on their journey in administering assessments. They spoke about the challenges they encountered, the strategies they applied, and the joy of engaging with young learnersโ€”making their stories both insightful and inspiring.

The activity not only recognized the hard work and dedication of the Reading Ambassadors but also emphasized the importance of nurturing early literacy through collaborative efforts. With a total of 40 students in attendance, the event was filled with enthusiasm, learning, and a shared sense of purpose in shaping future educators and empowering young readers.

This is a TEAM Project funded by the Flemish Interuniversity Council - University Development Cooperation (VLIR-UOS). It is a collaboration of MSU-IIT, KU Leuven, and University College Leuven-Limburg.

Local Partners: DepEd Iligan, NOTED NorthMinCar, and Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Centerpoint.

Recently, Project RISE successfully conducted the post-assessment of Grade 1 learners across our 10 RISE partner schools. This activity marked the culmination of the year-long classroom implementation carried out by our dedicated RISE-trained Grade 1 teachers.

Prior to the implementation, the project conducted a pre-assessment to establish baseline data on the learnersโ€™ early literacy skills. The recent post-assessment was then administered to measure the learnersโ€™ progress and the impact of the classroom interventions implemented throughout the school year.

During the assessment, learners were evaluated on key early literacy skills, including book and print knowledge, letter name recognition, letter sounds, phoneme segmentation, and other foundational skills essential for early grade learners.

Project RISE also extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the activity. Alongside the project team, pre-service teachers from the College of Education actively participated in the assessment process, gaining valuable field experience while contributing to the success of the activity.

๐Ÿ‘ Thank you to our partner schools, teachers, and volunteers for your continued support in strengthening early literacy among our learners!

Last February 21, 2026, Project RISE successfully held the culmination activity for Enhancing Early Literacy: A Training on Reading Pedagogy and Instructional Materials Development for Grade 2 teachers of our partner school.

The 12 Saturday sessions officially concluded last Saturday, marking the end of a meaningful and enriching journey for our dedicated educators. The event was attended by key representatives from our partners at DepEdโ€“Iligan and College of Education, whose support and presence made the celebration even more significant.

Prior to the culmination program, our brave and committed teachers conducted a successful teaching demonstration at Iligan City North Central School with selected Grade 2 learners. This showcased the strategies, lesson plans, and instructional materials they developed throughout the training.

In the coming school year, these carefully crafted lesson plans and materials will be implemented in their classrooms. As they welcome the incoming Grade 1 learners and guide them into Grade 2, they will continue nurturing and strengthening each childโ€™s reading journey.

Congratulations to our amazing teachers for their dedication and passion for advancing early literacy! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š
