The transition from secondary education to post-secondary endeavors is an incredibly critical phase in a student's development. Career and college readiness encompasses the competencies, motivation, and self-efficacy required to navigate academic and occupational challenges successfully (Saunders et al., 2021).
To understand how prepared our Grade 12 students are for this massive milestone, the Lyceum of Iligan Foundation recently administered the Career and College Readiness Scale, a validated psychometric instrument developed by Anderson-Butcher and Amorose (2012). This assessment helps measure how students perceive their preparedness and self-efficacy for future careers and post-secondary education.
The results are in, and here is an extensive look at what the data tells us about our future leaders!

The overarching verdict is incredibly positive: our ๐๐๐๐

The overall readiness score sits at an impressive mean of ๐. (SD = 0.661). Based on the principles of the scale, this elevated average reflects strong self-efficacy, a high level of motivation, and solid preparedness for post-secondary life.
๐บ๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, defined as the belief in one's ability to execute tasks competently, is heavily intertwined with positive educational and career outcomes (Bandura, 1994). Our Lyceans are demonstrating this in strides:
๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ: An overwhelming 93.2% of students agree or strongly agree that what they learn in school is preparing them well for college, yielding the highest mean score in the survey (M = 4.27).
90.9% of our respondents are actively setting goals to help them get into college (M = 4.18).
Over 80% of students believe they can successfully transition to college after high school (M = 4.08).
Itโs clear that the LIF curriculum and academic environment effectively support college preparedness and instill significant confidence regarding collegiate transitions.

While our students are incredibly confident about attending college, a critical analysis of the results reveals a dichotomy between academic readiness and occupational clarity. Figuring out exactly what specific career they want after graduation is still a work in progress for many.
The lowest mean scores within the assessment were observed in statements measuring long-term vocational confidence and career awareness:
โข ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ: When asked if they are confident they will get the job they want (CCR4), the mean score was 3.89, with a notable 28.4% of students expressing a "Neutral" stance.
Similarly, when asked if they are aware of careers that match their interests (CCR5), the mean was 3.93, with 29.9% of respondents feeling neutral.
This heightened neutrality points toward a lack of occupational clarity and suggests that while students are confident in their ability to attend college, they possess lingering uncertainties regarding their ultimate career trajectories.

If you aren't 100% sure about your long-term career path yet, that is completely normal! According to the interpretative framework of the scale, lower scores in these specific areas simply indicate a need for targeted interventions to help students explore career interests (Anderson-Butcher & Amorose, 2012).
To maximize student outcomes and bridge this gap, evidence suggests a need to enhance career counseling programs to bolster occupational awareness and long-term vocational confidence among graduating cohorts (Baker, 2019). The Lyceum of Iligan Foundation is committed to leveraging these findings to implement structured career exploration programs, ensuring you are supported every step of the way!
