They fell in love during their high school years at O.B. Montessori Center in Greenhills, sharing a young and innocent romance that left a lasting mark on both their lives.

After graduation, their paths slowly diverged. Carla Abellana pursued a degree in Psychology, completing her studies before entering show business. She eventually rose to stardom and became one of GMA Network’s prime stars, gaining widespread recognition for her iconic role as Rosalinda. Carla comes from a distinguished artistic lineage, she is the granddaughter of screen legend Delia Razon and the daughter of actor Rey Abellana.

Meanwhile, Reginald Santos, who comes from an established family prominent in the field of medicine, chose a different calling. He continued his medical studies and went on to become a medical doctor, dedicating his life to healing and service.

For many years, they lived completely separate lives, each growing and evolving in their own worlds. In 2022, a major turning point came when Carla’s marriage to Bartolome Mott was annulled in church. At the same time, Santos was also single, unaware that destiny was quietly aligning their paths once again.

After reconnecting and rediscovering the love they once shared, their bond proved stronger, deeper, and more mature. Three years later, they sealed their journey by getting married in a church, a powerful reminder that true love can endure time, distance, and change.

Their story beautifully shows that first love never truly fades, and when it is meant to be, destiny will always find its way back.

Remembering today OBMC’s Chairman of the Board, Journalist Maximo V. Soliven (+)

Part of the weekly practice of OBMC high school students in the 1990s to the early 2000s was reading Mr. Soliven’s opinion column, “By the Way,” in the Philippine Star. This habit developed their social awareness and desire to stay abreast with issues the country was facing during those years.

As we remember Mr. Soliven’s courage, brilliance, and eloquence, the poem “God, Give Us Men!” by J.G. Holland (1819–1881) comes to mind.

“GOD, give us men!
A time like this demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office can not buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty, and in private thinking;
For while the rabble, with its thumb-worn creeds,
Its large professions, and its little deeds,
Mingle in selfish strife—lo! Freedom weeps,
Wrong rules the land, and waiting Justice sleeps.”
