These achievements reflect GCUC’s growing commitment to research excellence, innovation, and sustainable development. More than awards, these accomplishments remind us that research is a powerful way of asking meaningful questions, understanding our communities, and creating solutions that can make a difference.

To our students, do not be afraid to explore, question, investigate, and discover. Research may begin with a simple question, but that question can become an idea, an innovation, or even a solution to a real-world problem. Learn to appreciate the process, embrace the challenges, and love research—not simply because it earns recognition, but because it gives you the opportunity to contribute something meaningful to society.

May the success of our faculty and student researchers inspire more GCUCians to step into the world of research, pursue knowledge with purpose, and become researchers who do not only study problems, but help create solutions for people, communities, and a sustainable future.

Another milestone for the Gingoog City United Colleges in the realm of research and innovation!

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Anthony A. Catiil, Jessa Paylangco, Rica Burdago and Willesa Alaba from the Department of Economics whose research papers had been ACCEPTED for Oral Presentation at the 2nd International Conference on UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Social Innovation. The Office of Research, Extension and Innovation (OREI) is proud to announce that the following faculty members and students whose research papers had been accepted for ORAL PRESENTATION at the 3rd HIGALAAY Multidisciplinary Research Festival to be held on August 20, 2026 via Zoom Platform.

This festival is spearheaded by the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) in cooperation with select Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs). To date, GCUC has an ongoing partnership with CCCDO on research and innovation (MOA).

Specifically, the following research studies will be showcased during the said research festival:

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦: 1st GCUC Research Congress concludes Day 1 with strong academic engagement

The opening day of the 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗖𝗨𝗖 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 on April 15, 2026, brought together students, faculty, and academic leaders in a series of plenary discussions and student presentations that underscored the role of research in navigating a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) world, as participants engaged in knowledge-sharing and academic exchange across multiple venues.

The congress will continue tomorrow for Day 2, with further sessions and activities expected to sustain the momentum of academic engagement.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦: 1st GCUC Research Congress concludes with prestigious awarding ceremony

On April 16, 2026, the 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗖𝗨𝗖 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 culminated in a grand celebration of academic achievement at the ASL Gymnasium. The afternoon proceedings commenced with the awarding ceremony and the distribution of certificates to all presenters and selected participants. Among the honorees was Esmail Mamaki, former BA Economics Governor, who received a certificate of recognition for qualifying for and participating in the 1st International Research Conference and the 2nd Higalaay Multidisciplinary Research Festival of the City College of Cagayan de Oro.

The ceremony formally recognized the tireless efforts of both students and faculty members. The winners in each category across different programs are as follows:

The ceremony also highlighted the overall winners, representing the highest achievements across the congress. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻 (𝗕𝗔 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀) clinched the 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, while 𝗘𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝗼 was recognized as the 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿. 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 (𝗕𝗔 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀) secured the 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, and 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘀 was honored as the 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Following the recognition, the event transitioned into its final phase with the closing remarks delivered by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Myrna J. Cezar. In her message, Dr. Cezar offered meaningful reflections on the significance of the research presented and encouraged participants to continue pursuing knowledge. She further challenged the student body to push the boundaries of academic excellence. Hosted by Nikki T. Lungay, LPT, MAED-SocSci and Madeline Sophie Mendoza, the ceremony stood as a testament to the remarkable level of innovation fostered within the institution.

The formal program concluded with attendees leaving the ASL Gymnasium with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed drive for future academic exploration.

HAPPENING NOW: Day 2 of the 1st GCUC Research Congress

The second day of the 1st GCUC Research Congress is currently underway at the Arturo S. Lugod Gymnasium on April 16, 2026, marked by a dynamic exchange of research and academic collaboration. The program opened with a cultural performance by selected BECEd students, followed by a recap of Day 1 highlights delivered by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Myrna J. Cezar, PhD.

A key highlight of the morning was the faculty research proposal presentations, where educators from BA Economics and BS Agribusiness showcased their research initiatives. Presenters included Almira A. Sabornido, LPT, MAED-SPE, Jevien Taneo, LPT, MAED-EM (Occ), Markjun T. Bedro, R.Agr., Msc. (Occ). Rosiebel A. Abao, LPT, Msc., underscored the significance of faculty-led research as a driving force for institutional development.

Simultaneously, parallel sessions are being conducted across multiple venues, including the GCUC and GCCNHS conference rooms, where student researchers from BA Economics and BS Entrepreneurship are defending their studies. The ASL Gymnasium continues to host both faculty and student presentations, while also featuring poster exhibits from twelve students representing various academic programs.

The morning session is nearing its conclusion with the final judging and tabulation of entries. This will be followed by the congress synthesis to be delivered by Mark Anthony A. Catill, DPA, Director for Research, Extension, and Innovation, and the awarding ceremony recognizing outstanding research contributions.
