𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗜 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Following the success of the first TALIAMBONG last school year, DULAANG RMMC once again brought together original theatrical works created and performed by its student actors in partnership with the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd) during “TALIAMBONG II: Mga Mukha ng Sining sa Entablado” held on May 13, 2026, 6 PM at RMMC Main Quadrangle in celebration of National Heritage Month. The term TALIAMBONG is derived from the words tali, meaning “to bind, connect, or unite,” and tambong, which refers to a “gathering” or “coming together.” Together, the term symbolizes the convergence of stories, artists, cultures, and voices into one meaningful artistic experience.

For the first time as a newly recognized theater guild of RMMC, DULAANG RMMC – Theater Lab formally presented original theater productions that reflected creativity, cultural identity, and contemporary realities through the performing arts. Under the artistic direction of Mr. Ismael Gallaza Pantao, MAED, LPT, Artistic Director of Dulaang RMMC – Theater Lab and at the same time, an Executive Council Member of the National Committee on Dramatic Arts (NCDA) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the production became more than a showcase of talent—it served as a platform for cultural reflection, creative collaboration, and storytelling that resonates with contemporary society. More than a presentation, the undertaking highlighted theater as a medium for cultural expression, social reflection, and creative empowerment.

The event featured a collection of monologues and scene works that explored identity, memory, humor, struggle, and the human experience through performance.

The program was attended by distinguished guests from the fields of education, arts, culture, and advocacy, including Mr. Leonardo Rey S. Carino, Director of the RMMC Cultural Development Center, together with Assistant Director Mr. DJ Brylle Silao; Ma’am Analiza T. Amada, EdD, LPT, Dean of the RMMC College of Teacher Education; Mr. Leomer Oscares, LPT, Acting Program Director of the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education; Retired Professor Romeo F. Narvaez, former Executive Council Member of the National Committee on Dramatic Arts of the NCCA; Ms. Debbie Bartolo from Respond and Break the Silence Against the Killings Artist Collective and Solidarity in Performing Arts, Philippines; Mr. Trent Joshua Asuncion from The Asia Foundation; Ms. Realith Calolong and Ms. Yannie Dael from Archipelagic Women of the Philippines; and Ms. Aileen F. Flores, an arts patron.

Through every scene, movement, and dialogue, the performers reminded the audience of the enduring power of theater as a vessel of heritage, identity, and human experience.

The play features 8 characters who are obsessive, fanatical smokers. They gather to discuss their "love affair" with ci******es, treating the act of smoking with a sense of glamour and ritual. While the characters celebrate the magic, the play subtly moves toward a confrontation with the harsh health realities and societal consequences of their addiction.
