Demonstrating strength and determination on the national stage, GFI Red Lions weightlifter Hyacent Villegas, a 3rd-year BSBA major in Human Resource Development Management (HRDM), captured three bronze medals in the Under-48 kilogram category during the National PRISAA 2026 held on May 10, at STI-West Negros University in Bacolod City.
Villegas secured bronze medals in the Sn**ch, Clean and Jerk, and overall divisions, contributing to Region XII and GFIโs growing medal tally in the national competition.
Competing against talented lifters from different regions, Villegas displayed composure and resilience throughout the event despite limited preparation prior to the meet.
โWinning three bronze medals feels very fulfilling and unforgettable for me as a first-timer in the National PRISAA Meet,โ said Villegas. โEven though I did not have enough training, I still gave my best and proved to myself that hard work and determination matter.โ
She shared that her passion for weightlifting and the unwavering support from the people around her became her driving force throughout the competition.
โWhat motivated me was my passion for the sport and the support of the people who believed in me,โ she added. โI also wanted to make my school, coaches, and family proud despite the challenges I faced.โ
Villegas also expressed gratitude to those who continuously supported her journey as a student-athlete.
โI am very thankful to my coach, family, and friends for always encouraging and believing in me. Their support gave me strength and confidence to continue and do my best in every competition,โ she said.
Her achievement highlights not only athletic excellence but also perseverance and dedication, as GFI continues to make its mark in the National PRISAA meet.
