Are you swiping right into danger? ๐๐ฑ
Our latest research at My Messiah School, Inc. Delas Alas Campus has uncovers a hidden cybersecurity risks of online dating apps among senior high school students. From identity theft and data privacy breach to encounters with malicious users. We surveyed 314 students and found a significant relationship between dating app usage and these threats!
This study calls for better digital literacy and safer online habits.
Beyond the statistics, our research highlights how curiosity, peer pressure, and the simple desire to connect with others can sometimes make students forget to prioritize their online safety. Many respondents shared that they have posted personal information, sent photos, or shared their location without fully thinking about the possible risks or consequences.
Because of this, we think we should improve our digital literacy knowledge as so students can learn more about staying safe online. Parents should also guide and remind their children about responsible internet use. There should be more cybersecurity awareness activities to help students understand the risks better. Even simple steps like keeping personal information private, making sure profiles are real, fixing privacy settings, and spotting red flags can already make a big difference in avoiding these dangers.
Today, making connections online is just one swipe away but staying safe should always come first.
Think before you swipe. Protect your privacy. Be responsible online. ๐โจ
