𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | 𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗨 𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗬𝗘-𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲

Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Northern Iloilo State University (NISU)-Main Campus, in collaboration with the Future Leaders of the Philippines (FLP), Young Environmentalist Society (YES), College Red Cross Youth (CRCY), and first-year students from the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), launched BYE-BITE: Limpyo Kontra Dengue, a campus-wide initiative aimed at strengthening dengue prevention and mosquito control within the university on September 20, 2026, at the NISU Main and West Campuses.

The initiative was formally supported through SSC Resolution No. 042, Series of 2026, sponsored by SSC College of Education Governor Ronnie B. Rogales Jr. The resolution authorizes the SSC to coordinate with the Municipality of Estancia, particularly the Municipal Health Office (MHO), for dengue prevention activities within the NISU-Estancia Main Campus.

First-year CWTS students and the major organizations participated in the initiative by assisting in campus clean-up activities and helping identify and eliminate areas that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds.

Campus Administrator Dr. Veminrose A. Clariza-Samuel, participation in initiatives such as BYE-BITE goes beyond maintaining cleanliness, as it provides the university community with an opportunity to contribute to the protection of one another.

“With my two hands, I will save a life,” Dr. Clariza-Samuel said, encouraging students and members of the NISU community to actively participate in initiatives aimed at preventing dengue and protecting lives.

Meanwhile, in an interview, Rogales emphasized the importance of taking preventive action before dengue cases increase, stressing that responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy environment begins with the community.

“Para sa akon, indi na naton kinahanglan hulaton nga magdamo pa ang cases antis kita mag action. Prevention starts with us, and action should start now. Because for me, a healthy and safe environment means we can learn better and grow better,” Rogales said.

Moreover, the BYE-BITE initiative underscores the role of student organizations and first-year CWTS students in promoting health, environmental responsibility, and community participation.

Making its debut in the MEGACHALLENGE Visayas-Wide Civil Engineering Quiz Show, Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) Main Campus Civil Engineering Department fielded two teams, with Team A ranking first among participating teams from Iloilo and placing 11th out of 50 teams across the Visayas on September 19 via Zoom.

Representing NISU alongside Team B, Team A was composed of Edgardo G. Cadagdagan Jr. and Nilo P. De Los Santos IV, with Vian M. Apocay as reserve and coached by Engr. Clarence F. Abris.

Additionally, the teams competed against representatives from state universities and colleges across the Visayas in the department’s first participation in the competition.

The Visayas-wide quiz show served as the official qualifying round for the MEGACHALLENGE National Cup 2026, with the Top Five teams advancing to the national competition.

Meanwhile, NISU Team B placed fourth among the participating teams from Iloilo, composed of Ada May A. Pancho and Kyla Joy M. Caballero, with Vincent Ven G. Azin as reserve and coached by Engr. Queen Harley A. Musico.

The competition ran from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and featured three stages: the Momentum Challenge, Accuracy Challenge, and Speed and Accuracy Challenge.

Moreover, the results marked the NISU Civil Engineering Department’s debut in the Visayas-wide competition, with Team A finishing 11th overall and first among Iloilo teams, while Team B placed fourth among the participating teams from Iloilo.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | 𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗨 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀

As Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) celebrates its 70th Founding Anniversary, two historical landmarks in its Main and West Campuses stand as reminders of the people and places that helped shape the institution's seven-decade journey.

Formerly known as Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC), the institution traces its beginnings to 1956, when the site of the present Main Campus in Estancia, Iloilo was donated by the late Municipal Mayor Serafin D. Demaisip for the establishment of the Philippines Institute of Fishery Technology (PIFT)–Western Visayas Branch.

A landmark dedicated in Demaisip's memory on September 16, 1997 records the institution's early development—from its transfer to the Department of Education and renaming as the Western Visayas School of Fisheries in 1960, to its conversion into a college under Republic Act No. 4349 in 1965.

The institution further evolved in 1983, when the Western Visayas College of Fisheries integrated Estancia High School and became Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College pursuant to Batas Pambansa Blg. 500.

Meanwhile, another landmark at the NISU West Campus honors the five individuals who donated the land for the founding of Estancia High School in 1949—Lucio Diolosa, Susana Matta, Iluminada Morales, Salome Pastor, and Don Policarpio Reyes.

The marker, dedicated on September 22, 2000, records how the school later became part of NIPSC following its integration with the Western Visayas College of Fisheries in 1983.

Capping off four days of competition, the College of Information and Computing Studies (CICS), the Falcons, emerged as the champion of the Sambuwa 2026: Intramural Sportfest, completing a Grand Slam after securing the titles in 2024 and 2025. The four-day sporting event kicked off on September 16 -18.

Following the Falcons in the final standings were the College of Education (COE), the Blue Lions, as first runner-up and the College of Industrial Technology (CIT), the Tigers, as second runner-up.

The College of Management, the Cheetahs, third runner-up, followed by the College of Engineering (COENG), the Wolves, in fourth runner-up, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), the Pink Flamingos, in fifth runner-up, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the Phoenix, in sixth runner-up, College of Fisheries and Allied Sciences (CFAS), the Orcas, in seventh runner-up and College of Midwifery (COMid), the Cobras, in eighth runner-up.
