Advancing health promotion for a healthier Philippines!
The Department of Health Promotion and Education, UP Manila College of Public Health, was honored to provide technical assistance during the Capacity Building Program on Basic Health Promotion, organized by the Department of Health Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD) Health Promotion Services (HPS). The five-day program was held from July 13 to 17, 2026, at The Bayleaf Cavite in General Trias, Cavite.
This short course, organized by DOH-MMCHD, aimed to strengthen the competencies of Health Promotion and Education Officers (HEPO) from DOH NCR Health Promotion Section, DOH-retained hospitals, and Local Government Units of Districts 1 to 4 of the National Capital Region.
Representing UP CPH as the invited technical training team were Dr. Ernesto R. Gregorio Jr. & Dr. Eleanor C. Castillo, and Charmaine Cañizares. With additional field support from a former faculty member, Dr. Stephanie Anne M. Sison, Mr. Mark Balunsat, Mr. Noel Macuja Pitallano Jr., and Ching Bagnes (office-based support). The team facilitated a comprehensive series of interactive lectures, activities, and workshops to support DOH NCR's vision for its HEPO’s.
This collaborative initiative was designed to equip HEPOs in the NCR with the competencies needed to be even more effective in carrying out their crucial duties on the ground. The training deepened participants' understanding of basic health promotion concepts, philosophies, strategies, and the diverse behavioral, environmental, and social determinants of health. The program concluded with the HEPOs co-drafting evidence-informed, theory-based, and community-centered Health Promotion Action Plans tailored to the current needs of their respective NCR localities.
Thank you, DOH MMCHD, for trusting UP CPH to facilitate this milestone initiative! Congratulations to all the participants and organizers for a successful training program!
Here’s to stronger competencies in making healthy behaviors the easier choice for everyone, every time, everywhere!
