Building Stronger Partnerships for Research Integrity! 🤝

Today, the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) of the University of the Philippines Manila conducted a benchmarking activity with the Lung Center of the Philippines to exchange best practices, share insights, and strengthen institutional initiatives in promoting research integrity.

The activity served as an opportunity to foster collaboration and reaffirm both institutions' commitment to upholding ethical, responsible, and high-quality research.

Together, we continue to advance a culture of integrity in research.

🚨 Saw something that doesn't seem right in a research project? Speak up.

Research integrity is more than following rules—it's about protecting the credibility of science and ensuring that research remains honest, transparent, and trustworthy.

If you have concerns involving:
🔹 Authorship disputes
🔹 Plagiarism
🔹 Data fabrication or falsification
🔹 Research misconduct
🔹 Other research integrity issues

📩 You can report them directly to the Office of Research Integrity (ORI).

Every concern goes through a structured escalation process to ensure a fair, objective, and confidential review. Reporting in good faith helps safeguard researchers, institutions, and the integrity of scholarly work.

💡 Integrity starts with accountability. Your voice can make a difference.

Together, let's build a culture where ethical research thrives.

🚨 Hindi lang pondo ang puwedeng nakawin—authorship din.

When we think of research misconduct, we often think of plagiarism or financial fraud. But another serious issue is inappropriate authorship.

Adding someone as an author without a meaningful contribution, excluding those who deserve credit, or engaging in practices such as honorary authorship, coercive authorship, or the sale of authorship undermines the integrity of research and the trust placed in the scholarly community.

📖 In ORIginal Series | Volume #2: Inappropriate Authorship, learn about the different forms of inappropriate authorship and why every name on a research paper should reflect genuine contribution, accountability, and responsibility.

Authorship is more than recognition—it is a commitment to research integrity.

📖 ORIginal Series | Volume #2

👀 May Akda? O In-Add Ka?

Not everyone whose name appears on a research paper qualifies as an author.

Inappropriate authorship occurs when individuals are included—or excluded—from the byline without meeting accepted authorship criteria. These practices undermine fairness, accountability, and the integrity of scientific research.

In Volume #2 of the ORIginal Series, we explore common forms of inappropriate authorship, including:

🎁 Gift Authorship
🎖️ Honorary (Guest) Authorship
👻 Ghost Authorship
⚠️ Coercion Authorship
💰 Selling Authorship

Because authorship is not a reward, a favor, or a commodity—it is earned through meaningful intellectual contribution, accountability, and responsibility.

📖 ORIginal Series | Volume #1

👀 Pangalan Mo Ba 'Yan?

Seeing your name on a research paper feels rewarding—but what does being an author actually mean?

Authorship is more than receiving credit. It comes with responsibility, accountability, and meaningful contribution to the research process.

In the first volume of the ORIginal Series, we explore a fundamental question:

📝 Who is an Author?

Join us as we unpack what authorship means, why it matters, and the criteria that guide ethical authorship in scientific work.
