SCIENCE MONTH CELEBRATION 2026

As part of our Science Month Celebration, the Grade 11 learners of Taft National High School proudly present their Community 3D Models, demonstrating their creativity, innovation, and ability to apply scientific principles and concepts to real-world community settings.

This activity was integrated into their regular Science classes, allowing learners to showcase their scientific skills and creativity without disrupting their regular class schedules and learning activities.

Through this hands-on activity, our learners put science into action and demonstrate how scientific knowledge can contribute to building a better and more sustainable community.

Please be informed that the exhibit visits are integrated into the learners’ regular Science classes. Each section will visit the exhibit according to its assigned schedule, ensuring that regular classes will not be disrupted.

After an inspiring week at the 2026 Climate Science Youth Camp, our participants have safely returned home,bringing with them not only new knowledge, but also wonderful experiences, friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of Earth and Climate Science.

Congratulations to our Grade 10 learners Art Cedric Ayong and Anne Fitz Lesley D. Cecogo together with Dr. Charito A. Balequia, for representing our school with pride, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for learning.

From exploring the geology of the Philippines and Eastern Visayas, learning about space rocks, minerals, rocks, fossils, and microfossils, to engaging in hands-on scientific activities at the National Museum of Natural History, every experience became an opportunity to discover, understand, and appreciate the story of our planet.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the DOST–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), particularly the iSTEP-UP Program, for providing this meaningful opportunity for our learners and teacher to learn from experts, experience science beyond the classroom, and be inspired to pursue deeper understanding of Earth and climate science.

Your support in nurturing young minds and creating opportunities for meaningful scientific experiences is truly appreciated. Thank you for helping inspire the next generation of young scientists!

A TRIUMPH OF EXCELLENCE, DETERMINATION, AND DREAMS!

We proudly celebrate the remarkable achievement of Taft National High School – 1st Runner-Up in Science (Taft District ) at the recently concluded 2026 Division Science, Technology, and Mathematics Fair (DSTMF) held at Sulat District, Sulat, Eastern Samar!

This victory is more than a collection of medals, certificates, and rankings. It is a testament to the passion, perseverance, courage, and brilliance of our learners, teachers, coaches, and the entire Taft National High School community.

From Physical Science to Robotics and Intelligent Machines, from Life Science to the STEM Innovation Expo, and from the Science Quiz Bee to the various special competitions—our students proved that when young minds are nurtured with dedication and purpose, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

2026 CLIMATE SCIENCE YOUTH CAMP

Day 3 | September 9, 2026

The learning journey of Cedric A. Ayong, Anne Fitz Lesley D. Cecogo, and Dr. Charito A. Balequia, continues on Day 3 of the 2026 Climate Science Youth Camp on Earth Science at the National Museum of Natural History of the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila.

The day began with the lecture " Journey Through Deep Time: Understanding Earth’s Story,”followed by an activity that allowed the participants to explore the fascinating history of our planet through the concept of deep time.

The participants then learned about fossils and the fossilization process, gaining insights into how evidence of ancient life is preserved and what fossils can reveal about Earth's past.

A sieving demonstration using wet and dry sediments provided a hands-on look at how sediment samples can be processed and examined. This was followed by a microfossil viewing and identification activity, where the learners observed tiny fossil remains and practiced identifying them through careful examination.

Day 3 once again brought Earth Science to life through lectures, hands-on activities, observation, and scientific discovery, making the Science Youth Camp an exciting journey through Earth's incredible history.

Igniting Young Minds Through Earth Science: Highlights from the 2026 Climate Science Youth Camp

Two Grade 10 learners, Art Cedric A. Ayong and Anne Fitz Lesley D. Cecogo, together with Dr. Charito A. Balequia, are currently participating in the 2026 Climate Science Youth Camp, being held from September 6–12, 2026 at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila.

The week-long activity is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology–Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI)and aims to enrich the participants' knowledge and understanding of Earth and climate science through lectures, hands-on activities, and field-based learning experiences.

Day 1: Exploring the Geology of the Philippines

The first day of the camp featured a lecture on the Geology of the Philippines and Eastern Visayas. The participants gained valuable insights into the geological characteristics, processes, and formations that shape the Philippine archipelago, with emphasis on the geology of Eastern Visayas.

Another interesting session focused on space rocks, introducing the learners to meteorites and other materials from outer space and broadening their understanding of Earth's relationship with the universe.

The day's learning experience was complemented by an educational tour around the National Museum of Natural History, where the participants explored various exhibits and specimens that provided concrete connections to the concepts discussed during the lectures.

Day 2: Understanding Minerals and Rocks

The second day focused on the fascinating world of minerals and rocks. The participants attended lectures covering minerals, the rock factory, and the rock cycle, deepening their understanding of how rocks form, change, and undergo continuous transformation through geological processes.

A highlight of the day was the hands-on activity on the macroscopic identification of rocks. Through careful observation of the physical characteristics of rock samples, the learners applied their knowledge and practiced identifying and classifying different types of rocks.

The first two days of the camp have provided Art, Anne, and Dr. Balequia with meaningful opportunities to learn, investigate, and experience science beyond the classroom. The activities also highlight the importance of experiential learning in developing scientific curiosity, observation skills, and a deeper appreciation of the Earth and its dynamic processes.

The Science Department proudly recognizes their participation in this significant learning opportunity and looks forward to the knowledge and experiences they will bring home to share with fellow learners and teachers.
