Sta. Cruz Elementary School Sta. Cruz Elementary School is located at Brgy. Cruz in Talicud Island. Cruz Elementary School has been existing since 1945.

It is situated at the 1.8 hectares of school site reserved by the government. This was originally a one teacher school constructed under the joint initiative of the PTA and the barangay people with their barangay officials. Through the ceaseless struggle of the early settlers, this pioneer school has grown in population that management and supervision had to be placed under the control of the Depa

rtment of Education. This school is named after the Patron Saint of the barangay. The people of this barangay are peace loving, so they live happily with very fine relation with all the people. Cruz Elementary School lies at the center of Barangay Sta. Cruz which is also located at the eastern part of Talicud Island. There are three barangays adjacent to Sta. Cruz namely: Cogon at the southeastern part, Linosotan at the southwestern part, and Dadatan at the northwestern part of the island. The barangay is of considerable distance from the district and about 91 miles from the City of Davao. Staying at the wharf of the barangay, facing east-northwest you can see the poblaciΓ³n of former municipality of Kaputian and far north lies the Pearl Farm Beach Resort, owned by a pure Filipino businessman. Cruz Elementary School has the biggest enrolment within Talicud Island. It is committed to providing its students with a rigorous and well- rounded education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond. The school believed that all students have the potential to learn and grow, and dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Cruz Elementary School promotes the core values of DepEd: Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, Makabansa. It is believed that these values are essential for creating a positive and productive learning environment. It is also believed that it is important for the students to develop into well-rounded individuals who are responsible, respectful, and engaged in their communities. Cruz Elementary School offers variety of unique programs and opportunities for its students. It has a strong reading program entitled, YIS, I CaRe or You and I in School, I Care to Read which offers reading remediation and intervention to close the gap in reading difficulties and deficiencies of the learners and increase the academic results across all levels. This program resulted to the consistent awards of the school as Huwarang Sentro ng Pagbasa, Division Level for the past five years since the launch of the reading program. In addition, the school offers a number of extracurricular activities and clubs so that its students can pursue their interests and develop their talents. Cruz Elementary School is a diverse community of students from all walks of life. It is proud of its diversity and believed that it is one of its greatest strengths. It is committed to creating a school environment where all students feel welcomed and respected.

Aspiring Writers and Campus Journalists Unite for Day 1 of Online Campus Journalism Training

STA. CRUZ, ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL β€” August 22, 2026. Aspiring young writers from Sta. Cruz Elementary School and campus journalists from Sta. Cruz National High School came together at the Sta. Cruz Elementary School Office to participate in the first day of the three-day Online Training on Campus Journalism for the Island Garden City of Samal.

The training brought together enthusiastic learners who share a passion for writing, communication, and journalism. Through the online session, the participants were given opportunities to learn more about the fundamentals of campus journalism and develop their skills as young writers.

Guiding the participants throughout the Day 1 training were Teacher Eugelyn Vertudazo - Combinido and Teacher Ritchejoy Relatado Combinido , a teacher-couple from Sta. Cruz Elementary School and Sta. Cruz National High School. Their guidance and encouragement helped create a supportive learning environment for the aspiring writers and campus journalists.

The first day marked the beginning of a meaningful three-day learning experience aimed at strengthening the participants' knowledge and skills in campus journalism. With their enthusiasm and willingness to learn, the young journalists are expected to gain valuable insights that will help them become more confident and responsible campus writers.

As the training continues, the participants look forward to the succeeding sessions, bringing with them their curiosity, creativity, and determination to grow as young journalists of the Island Garden City of Samal.
