🌍 Ground Gravity Survey in Eastern Marinduque
Project researchers, Albert Logan and Kelvin Fajardo, recently completed a second phase of ground gravity survey across the municipalities of Buenavista, Torrijos, and Santa Cruz, Marinduque.
The survey forms part of the ARC3D Project (3D Geophysical Mapping of the Southern Luzon Arc Crust and Geohazard Implications) led by Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta and funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The results will contribute to ongoing efforts to improve geohazard assessment and advance our understanding of the tectonic evolution of the Southern Luzon Arc.

RWG Conducts Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Workshop in Marinduque! ⛰️🌏👷‍♂️
Researchers from the Rushurgent Working Group (RWG) Laboratory successfully conducted a GPR Seminar-Workshop in Marinduque Province on June 9, 2026. The workshop covered the fundamentals of GPR theory and applications, hands-on equipment demonstration, basic data processing workflow, and radargram interpretation.
Led by Dr. Leo T. Armada, together with research associates Marc Alvior, Maui Apundar, and Denise Salazar, the GPR workshop was attended by personnel from the Marinduque Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Municipal DRRM Offices across the province.
The activity forms part of RWG’s continuing extension program aimed at strengthening local government capacities in disaster preparedness and geohazard assessment. The workshop was supported through Dr. Armada’s DOST-funded SeiScan_PH project and an OVCRD Extension Grant.

RWG Researchers Participate in the 2026 NEXUS Program at Kyushu University
Dr. Jillian Aira Gabo-Ratio and two graduate students from the Rushurgent Working Group, Mr. John Kenneth Badillo (PhD student) and Mr. Glenn Vallespin (MS student), are currently participating in the 2026 NEXUS Program at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan from June 2 to 15, 2026.
The Networked Exchange, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN (NEXUS) Program is an international research and education initiative supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The program focuses on securing critical resources necessary for green technologies and sustainable development while promoting scientific collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region. Participants from Japan and Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Cambodia, and Malaysia, come together to strengthen regional cooperation in resource research and related fields.
As part of the said program, Mr. Badillo presented his ongoing research on Philippine metamorphic rocks, while Mr. Vallespin shared his work on the crustal framework of Samar Island. Their participation highlights RWG's continued commitment to advancing geoscience research and fostering international academic collaboration.

Building a Harmonized Approach to Geohazard Mapping in the Philippines
Members of the Rushurgent Working Group participated in an interagency meeting focused on ongoing initiatives in landslide assessment and the development of a national landslide inventory and database in the Philippines. Held at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), the seminar brought together members of the Geohazards and Fault Mapping – Technical Working Group (GeoFAM-TWG), together with other researchers and technical staff from UPD–NIGS, DOST-PHIVOLCS, DENR-MGB, and UPLB SESAM. The activity forms part of the continuing initiatives of the GeoFAM-TWG, which was established during its inaugural meeting in January 2026. The meeting underscored the value of sustained interagency collaboration in strengthening disaster risk assessment, hazard forecasting, and geoscience-based decision-making across the country.
