The first of the Counter-mapping Workshop Series happening this 15 June 2022 (Wednesday), from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM (Philippine Standard Time) is one of the events of the Counter-Mapping as Urban Resistance Seminar Series that we co-organized with the University of the Philippines Diliman Department of Geography and other partners, with funding from the Urban Studies Foundation. The theme for the first of the series is Geospatial Technologies for Counter-mapping.

For tomorrow, Ben Hur Pintor, maptivist at Counter-mapping PH Network, will share with us an overview of tools for mapping and digital security. MapBek's Mikko Tamura will also join us and present their work on mapping safe spaces for the LGBTQI+ (Happy Pride Month!)

The series of workshops will highlight the applications of geospatial tools and mapping methods that facilitate the collaborative exposition of the conditions, struggles, and experiences of local communities in the face of urban transformations, the risks of disasters, and the precarity of living in marginal or contested spaces. They include presentations and short demonstrations by our guest mapping practitioners on adaptable, open, and accessible digital mapping tools that local communities can use for mapping and documenting their area and curating their place-based stories.

We are inviting organizations, individuals, and interested parties working with marginalized sectors and communities to explore the possibilities for counter-mapping to contribute to their advocacies, knowledge-building, awareness-raising, and campaign activities.

COUNTER-MAPPING WORKSHOP SERIES

We are inviting organizations, individuals, and interested parties working with marginalized sectors and communities to explore the possibilities for counter-mapping to contribute to their advocacies and campaigns.

The Counter-mapping Workshop Series includes presentations and a short demonstration by geospatial workers and counter-mapping practitioners on adaptable, open, and accessible digital mapping tools that local communities can use for mapping and documenting their area and place-based stories. The participants will generate a map output and a concept on the potential application of the tools they learned from the workshop to their respective communities.

To register for the limited slots, fill out the online Google Form at bit.ly/CMURWorkshopDay1 and bit.ly/CMURWorkshopDay2 for the June 15 and 18 sessions respectively. Approved registrants will receive the details of the virtual workshop along with instructions on the needed preparations for the activity.
