Professor Steve Nwokechoa stresses that equity and innovation must go hand in hand in Teacher Professional Development (TPD).

Education authorities and development partners should mainstream gender equality, disability, and social inclusion to ensure all teachers can fully participate. At the same time, governments need clear policies for AI and other emerging technologies to guide effective and responsible integration into teacher education.

Professor Betty Ezati highlights that driving innovation in education requires ongoing dialogue and collaboration — especially when confronting resistance to new pedagogical practices.

Mentorship and other promising practices can only succeed when stakeholders are engaged, convinced, and supported to move beyond outdated systems toward approaches that truly meet today’s learning needs.

Professor Ibro Chekaraou shares how coaching can transform teacher support when approached as collaboration rather than hierarchy.

At the École Normale Supérieure, future advisors are trained to build trust first, fostering a partnership where teachers feel comfortable and supported. This collaborative approach strengthens professional relationships and creates more effective, lasting impacts in the classroom.

In advancing technology for Teacher Professional Development (TPD), Patrick Kogolla of CEMASTEA shared an exciting milestone: the development of a Mobile Teacher Professional Development App in partnership with VVOB.

Designed to make professional learning accessible anytime, anywhere, the app enables teachers to log in on their mobile phones and access the programs they are enrolled in — extending training beyond workshops and into daily practice.

By opening access to all trained teachers, this initiative represents a meaningful step toward scalable, on-the-go professional development.

In Niger, teacher professional development is being strengthened through a powerful blend of technology, equity, and inclusion.

Professor Ibro Chekaraou shares two national initiatives: an Assisted Online Teaching Device enabling teachers to access CPD remotely — particularly supporting rural and female teachers — and Digital Coaching, anchored by a national server in Niamey, giving educators access to teaching videos and best practices across the country, including regions affected by insecurity.

These efforts demonstrate how thoughtful policy and digital infrastructure can expand access, promote inclusion, and sustain teacher learning — even in challenging contexts.

Technology — in all its forms — emerged as the standout priority for high-quality teacher education in our 2025 survey.

From tools like WhatsApp and MOOCs to emerging technologies such as generative AI, the research examined both classroom use and how technology is embedded within teacher education systems themselves.

For policymakers, the message is clear: technology integration must be strategic, equity-focused, and system-wide.

An expert in our engagement workshops offered a thought-provoking reflection: “The day is technological, but the learning is classical, yet a teacher still acts as a source of knowledge, which is overdue – as knowledge is everywhere through technology. In this regard, there is a need for a deep dive to examine relevance.”

In an age where information is everywhere, this raises an urgent question about relevance. How should teaching evolve when access to knowledge is no longer limited to the classroom?

This calls for a deeper examination of pedagogy, teacher roles, and how technology can meaningfully reshape learning — not just digitize old models.
