🚨 More information ⬇️
Nankai Trough ( , , Nankai Torafu , Southern Sea Trough ) is a submarine trough located in the southern Nankaidō region of Japan's Honshu island, stretching about 900 km (559 mi) offshore. The basis of the fault, is the origin of the devastating Nankai megathrust earthquake.

Megathrust earthquake occurs at convergent plate boundaries, where one tectonic plate is forced underneath another. Earthquakes are caused by a slip along the thrust fault that creates contact between the two plates.
[1] These interplate earthquakes are the strongest on the planet, with moments of magnitude (Mw) that can exceed 9.0
[2] Since 1900, all earthquakes of magnitude 9.0 or more have been called megathrust earthquakes.
[3] The thrust faults responsible for megathrust earthquakes are usually under the ocean; in such cases, earthquakes can suddenly shift the seafloor to a large area.
As a result, megathrust earthquakes often cause tsunamis that are more destructive than the earthquakes themselves. Teletsunamis may have crossed ocean basins to destroy areas far from the original earthquake.

The Tōkai region has experienced a number of large earthquakes in the past, including the two great earthquakes in 1944 (also known as the "Tonankai earthquake") and 1945 (also known as the "Mikawa earthquake").
[1] Following the work of Kiyoo Mogi, it is predicted that there is a possibility that the area will be subject to a shallow magnitude 8.0 earthquake in the near future.
[2] Nagoya, Shizuoka, and other large cities would be greatly damaged, with potential casualties in the tens of thousands. The Coordinating Committee for Earthquake Prediction designated the region as an Area of Specific Observation in 1970, and upgraded it to an Area of Intensified Observation in 1974.

In my own opinion, base from the last Mega Quake in 1946, comparing it to today’s technology, awareness and prepareness may have a good chance of not having a same devastation that happened in the past. And yet I also think that this kind of event is unpredictable as if no one can truly assure that it may be or it may not be happening soon, still I believe things will be a lot different from the past mega quakes results in Japan.
Let us be prepared and follow the government awareness and pray for everyone’s safety!
