The SMCTI Guidance Center is indispensable and is one of the important service agencies of the institution. This is where the clientele will be given help and assistance whenever choices are to be made and where help is needed in making intelligent decisions and adjustments and in solving problems. igent choices and adjustments and for the effective utilization of the guidance services. Objectives
In consonance with enhancing the development of the individual student, the office has the following objectives:
โขTo assist the students to make the necessary adjustment to SMCTI.
โขTo assist every student in analyzing, appraising, and probing his/her strengths and weaknesses.
โขTo assist every student in the formulation of worthy goals suitable to his/her needs and abilities.
โขTo assist every student in the acquisition of social, emotional, psychological, and mental maturity.
โขMake available information materials necessary for course preparations and requirements for plans and for planning a life career.
โขMake available counseling sessions with the student (Voluntary or preferred by the teacher) in their:
a. Educational, personal, social and vocational plans and needs
b. Relationship with their family, peer, community, and to a bigger group of people in the society. Spiritually needs as good Marians and live as true Christians through the expressions of love, justice, and service, thus acknowledging each individualโs strengths and weaknesses or limitations. Role as a real Filipino and to become an effective contributor to the national development.
โขTo assist parents/guardians, educators, and other persons concerned to recognize and understand the developmental needs of the students.
โขTo provide data needed by the administrators and teachers for curriculum planning and other related instructional planning processes. List of Guidance Services Offered as of School Year 2021-2022 (Distance Learning)
The Guidance Program is a series of services aimed at assisting the students in their total development. These services evolved on the working philosophy that each student is unique and capable of achieving self-actualization. Orientation
โขThis is designed to facilitate the adjustment of every student to his new environment. It involves familiarization of students with the different opportunities, and services available in SMCTI Guidance Center. Individual inventory
โข The Guidance Staff organize, update, and keep comprehensive records of students about his home and family, scholastic progress, test results interviews and other data deemed helpful in understanding the context of the students and in writing recommendation letters when requested. Testing
โข This service aims to provide a piece of objective and dependable information about each student. Such information could be used for several different purposes such as:
a. Determine studentโs strengths and weaknesses
b. Identify studentsโ personality
d. Identify studentsโ achievements in language and mathematics, science, and, other related fields. Information
โข Students are provided information useful for their personal, emotional, educational, and career development through various activities like group dynamics, webinars, workshops, career talks, and job fairs. It also provides information about various agencies/organizations that grant scholarship programs for the less fortunate but deserving students so that they could avail themselves of the opportunities for college or further education. E. Counseling
โขThis is considered the heart and soul of Guidance. E.1 Individual Counseling
Individual counseling provides the opportunity for an individual student to understand his/her problems more clearly to make wise choices and decisions and resolve conflicts. This is done privately through counseling interviews. E.2 Group Counseling
Group counseling takes the nature of the homeroom guidance initiated and facilitated by the YLO/homeroom advisers or peer counselors. Activities are organized to respond to the developmental needs of the students according to year/grade level. F. Referrals
โข Students requiring special attention are directed to the guidance center after consultation between the counselor and parents and/or teachers and administration. Cases needing professional administration are referred to psychologists and/or other allied medical personnel. G. Follow up
โข The guidance Counselors are not only concerned with the performance of each student while theyโre in SMCTI but also concerned when they will already leave St. Maryโs College of Tagum, Inc., with the hope that basis for evaluation and possible revision or enlargement of the educational programs in light with the school learnerโs experiences. H. Career and placement
โข This service is to direct the students to the proper curriculum subjects and put them in touch with the proper occupation that fits their academic preparation. Likewise, this service is also intended to assist students to make adequate adjustments and participating in the activities with their needs and capabilities. I. Research and evaluation
โข This involves the utilization of data available at the Guidance Center. These data are made available to the administrators and faculty, as an aid to curriculum and program evaluation and development. Basic statistical researchers/surveys are conducted by the guidance personnel to provide some basis of facts for continued modification, improvement of innovations derived from the results/findings of the study undertaken.
โข A semestral and year-end evaluation is conducted to determine the extent to which the program achieves its objectives. Contact Information
