RMC School of Law Debate Team Update
Yesterday, May 30, 2026, during the Magnus Conventus 2026 debate competition organized by the Association of Law Students of the Philippines- Mindanao, our debate team faced Notre Dame University (Cotabato City) in the semi-finals on the motion: “Let it be resolved that the Philippines shall repeal the Oil Deregulation Law.” RMC proudly took the Affirmative Side.
Although the RMC debate team led the match in terms of raw scores by one point, a two-point deduction made by the adjudicator—disputed by the team as not found in the competition guidelines—ultimately reversed the result. The matter was elevated to the grievance committee of the organizers, which merely upheld the adjudicator’s ruling.
Despite this, we stand firm in our commitment to rules-based competition and continue not to recognize the disputed match outcome. We hope future tournaments will be guided with greater diligence for a fairer and healthier debate environment.
As semi-finalists, we take pride in the dedication of our debaters and researchers, the support of our school community, and the tireless guidance of our mentor coach. We also extend our gratitude to the esteemed adjudicator for the valuable insights shared during the elimination and semi-final rounds—lessons we truly and genuinely treasure in honing our craft. We also appreciate the NDU team for the close fight.
💙 RMC Debate Team: Resilient, principled, and proud.
